National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man meets with heads of delegations from countries on the occasion of attending the World Conference of Speakers of Parliaments

(Chinhphu.vn) - On the occasion of attending the 6th World Conference of Speakers of Parliament in Geneva (Switzerland), on July 29 and 30 (local time), National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man had short meetings with Heads of delegations of countries attending the Conference.

On July 30, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man had meetings with Chairwoman of the Russian Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko, Speaker of the Japanese House of Representatives Fukushiro Nukaga, Speaker of the Singaporean Parliament Seah Kian Peng, Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament Sahiba Gafarova, and President of the Austrian Senate Peter Samt.

At the meetings, the Heads of Delegations of the countries expressed their delight at the important achievements in bilateral cooperation in recent times, including cooperation between legislative bodies; at the same time, they highly appreciated the increasing role and position of Vietnam in the region as well as in the world and expressed their desire to continue maintaining and promoting relations with Vietnam in many fields in the coming time.

Chairwoman of the Federation Council of Russia Valentina Matviyenko and Chairwoman of the Azerbaijani Parliament Sahiba Gafarova highly appreciated the historic visit of General Secretary To Lam in May 2025 and affirmed that bilateral relations have made great strides and all problems have been resolved.

Ms. Valentina Matviyenko expressed her special impression of the recent visit of the wife of General Secretary To Lam to Russia with many rich cultural activities attracting the attention of the Russian public, such as the inauguration of Ho Chi Minh Square and the Russia - Vietnam Cultural Center in Saint Petersburg.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives of Japan recalled the good impression of the official visit of National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man to Japan in December 2024, agreed with the proposal of the Chairman of the Vietnamese National Assembly on the two sides to jointly promote the implementation of the agreements reached and, together with the two governments, continue to deepen bilateral cooperation.

The Speaker of the Singaporean Parliament affirmed his appreciation and support for further deepening the Vietnam-Singapore Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, continuing to support the Vietnamese National Assembly in applying digital technology and artificial intelligence (AI), and closely cooperating at inter-parliamentary forums, especially the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly and the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

The President of the Austrian Senate positively acknowledged Vietnam's proposals to soon complete the ratification of the Vietnam - EU Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA), to urge the European Commission (EC) to soon remove the IUU "yellow card" on Vietnam's seafood exports, and to build a cooperation agreement between the two parliaments.

National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man suggested that heads of parliaments of the countries coordinate to promote high-level visits and contacts; actively implement the results of recent visits; and enhance cooperation and exchange activities of parliamentary committees, agencies, and groups of parliamentarians. On this occasion, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man invited the Chairmen of the National Assembly of the countries to visit Vietnam to jointly promote bilateral relations and parliamentary cooperation.

On July 29, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man had brief meetings with Chairman of the Supreme People's Assembly of North Korea Pak Il Chol, Chairman of the National Assembly of South Korea Woo Won Shik, and Chairman of the House of Representatives of Kazakhstan Yerlan Koshanov.

At a meeting with Chairman of the Supreme People's Assembly of North Korea Pak Il Chol, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man conveyed the greetings of General Secretary To Lam, President Luong Cuong and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to leader Kim Jong Un and Prime Minister Pak Thae Song of North Korea.

Chairman of the Supreme People's Assembly of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea Pak Il Chol agreed to promote cooperation in mutually beneficial areas in accordance with international regulations such as economic and trade cooperation and facilitating trade of goods.

Speaker of the National Assembly of South Korea Woo Won Shik affirmed that he will closely coordinate with the Vietnamese side to carefully prepare for the upcoming visit of high-ranking Vietnamese leaders to South Korea.

Chairman of the Kazakh House of Representatives Yerlan Koshanov highly appreciated the significance of General Secretary To Lam's visit to Kazakhstan last May, agreeing that the two countries need to focus on concretizing the results achieved during the visit.

The Chairman of the Vietnamese National Assembly suggested that the heads of the parliaments of the countries work closely to prepare well for the upcoming high-level visits and meetings, implement the results of the recent visits and promote more comprehensive and deeper cooperation in all channels and areas where both sides have strengths and needs; at the same time, strengthen parliamentary cooperation, exchanges and coordination at all levels in an increasingly practical and effective manner.
