According to BSS on July 31, Chile evacuated about 1.4 million people in coastal areas after an 8.8-magnitude earthquake off the coast of Russia caused a tsunami warning in the Pacific Ocean on July 30.

"Nationally, an estimated 1.4 million people have been evacuated," Chilean Interior Minister Alvaro Elizalde told reporters after the first tsunami hit the South American country.
"From Arica, near the northern border with Peru, to Los Lagos in the south of the country, the highest alert level has been declared," the source said.
Deputy Interior Minister Victor Ramos thanked the population for their cooperation in carrying out "the largest mass evacuation in the country's history".
It is known that many areas in Russia were flooded after the first tsunami hit.
Kamchatka Governor Vladimir Solodov said the region had experienced “the strongest aftershocks in the past decade”. The head of the regional emergency services, Sergey Lebedev, said a tsunami of 3-4 metres was recorded in Kamchatka’s Elizovsky district, and urged people to stay away from the coast.
Tsunamis also hit the US state of Hawaii on July 30, with the Haleiwa area recording tsunami waves higher than 1 meter.
A magnitude 8.8 earthquake off the coast of Russia has prompted many countries to issue tsunami warnings and order evacuations in dangerous areas. However, by the evening of July 30, some countries had lifted or downgraded tsunami warnings.
