From hardship to rise
In 2000, after getting married and moving out, Thi Oanh and her husband began their life together. At that time, their assets consisted of only more than 3 hectares of old coffee land, with increasingly low economic efficiency due to exhausted crops, old varieties, and unstable productivity. For many years, her family only had enough to eat, not enough to spare, making their life always in a state of shortage.
However, with a progressive spirit and determination to rise up, Ms. Oanh does not allow herself to be satisfied with reality. She actively participates in agricultural technical training courses organized by the locality; actively seeks information through media channels and through the experiences of good producers in the area.
In 2015, after a period of consideration, she decided to destroy the entire old coffee area to switch to growing the new TR4 coffee variety - a variety that is evaluated for high yield, good quality, suitable for local climate and soil conditions. At the same time, she also boldly invested in planting 1,000 pepper pillars intercropped between coffee rows and some fruit trees such as durian, avocado, Thai jackfruit... With a spirit of eagerness to learn and perseverance to overcome difficulties, she and her husband gradually accumulated more experience, effectively applying scientific and sustainable farming methods.
After just over 3 years, her family's TR4 coffee garden began to yield stable harvests with high yields. Pepper plants grew well and produced fruit evenly. Fruit trees also grew healthily, gradually bringing income to the family. Currently, Ms. Thi Oanh's family's total annual income is over 1 billion VND from crops such as coffee, pepper and fruit trees. Not only stabilizing the economy, she also actively invests in reproduction, land care and expanding the model towards organic, biosafety, and long-term environmental protection.
Not only is she a good farmer, Ms. Thi Oanh is also an active woman in social work. She regularly participates in community activities in Bon Bu N'Doh, from new rural construction movements to environmental protection programs, preserving the traditional cultural identity of the M'nong people. With her sociable and affectionate lifestyle, she is loved and trusted by the people in the hamlet.
Ethnic minority women who are good at business
Ms. Thi Oanh is a living testament to the spirit of overcoming difficulties, daring to think and dare to do of ethnic minority women. Her success is not only the result of hard work but also the result of innovative thinking, knowing how to listen and grasp the trend of effective and sustainable production. Currently, Ms. Oanh is continuing to renovate her garden, expanding the area of durian and avocado cultivation in a clean, safe direction, linked to market demand. She also wishes to participate in specialized training courses to improve her techniques, aiming for more effective specialized production.
With her tireless efforts, Ms. Thi Oanh deserves to be a typical example in developing household economy in ethnic minority areas, a source of inspiration for many other M'nong women to be more confident in their journey to master their lives.
