Hato joined Chelsea. |
BBC reported that "The Blues" agreed to pay 37 million pounds to own Hato. The two sides need to complete the final procedures before officially closing this deal.
The 19-year-old Dutchman is expected to sign a seven-year contract, running until 2032, and will travel to London for a medical after receiving approval from Ajax's board.
Chelsea see Hato as a potential option to add competition to their defence. He is capable of playing at both left-back and centre-back. Hato made his first-team debut for Ajax in February 2023 at the age of 16 years and 335 days, becoming the third youngest player ever to play in the Eredivisie.
Hato has made 75 appearances for Ajax to date and also made his debut for the Netherlands in 2023.
Ajax's decision to sell Hato comes as they seek to raise funds after two years of Champions League revenue shortfalls. The Dutch club will return to Europe's premier competition this season.
Chelsea are believed to be close to completing their summer transfer business, but are still looking for another attacker. The Blues have held talks with RB Leipzig midfielder Xavi Simons' representatives but have yet to make a formal offer.
