Overseas Vietnamese player Le Viktor makes history in Vietnamese football

(Dan Tri) - With the goal scored against U23 Bangladesh last night (September 3), Le Viktor became the first overseas Vietnamese player to score for Vietnamese football at the U23 Asian tournament.

Le Viktor scored the winning goal for the Vietnam U23 team in a 2-0 victory over Bangladesh U23, in the qualifying round of the 2026 AFC U23 Championship. The goal came in the 83rd minute, after a header from close range.

With the goal scored at Viet Tri Stadium ( Phu Tho ) last night, the midfielder of the Vietnam U23 team became the first overseas Vietnamese in history to score for our country's football at the U23 Asian tournament.

After the match with U23 Bangladesh, Le Viktor said: “The U23 Vietnam team coordinated very well with each other, especially in the final minutes of the match against U23 Bangladesh. We created many situations that threatened the opponent's goal. Overall, these were great coordination moves by U23 Vietnam.”

“Honestly, I was a bit nervous when I was put on the field for this match. However, after scoring, I felt much more confident. I am very happy to have scored my first goal for the U23 Vietnam team.

I will try to score more goals in the future. I thank everyone for supporting me, I will try harder to contribute to U23 Vietnam, to Vietnamese football", Le Viktor affirmed.

The 2026 AFC U23 Championship qualifiers are Le Viktor’s second official international tournament for the Vietnam U23 team. In July, he was part of the Vietnam U23 team that won the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship in Indonesia.

Le Viktor is currently playing for Ha Tinh Club. If he maintains his current form, Le Viktor may be selected to participate in the 33rd SEA Games in December this year, along with the Vietnam U23 team.
