In a video posted on social media on Saturday, a bearded young man wearing a blue floral shirt carved his and his girlfriend's names with a key into the interior wall of the ancient Roman stone amphitheatre. He left behind the words "Ivan + Hayley 23."

The couple of brothers who were thrown from the schoolyard is in picture 1.

Italy's Carabinieri police said they had been helped to identify the couple but did not name them.

A police source said the man was being investigated but the couple left the country before authorities could arrest them.

The man risks a fine of at least 15,000 euros ($16,415) and a prison sentence of up to five years if he is convicted in Italy.

“This act offends all people around the world who appreciate the value of archaeology, monuments and history,” said Italian Culture Minister Gennaro Sangiuliano.
