Can Tho starts construction of a series of key projects to welcome the Party Congress

(Chinhphu.vn) - Towards the 1st Congress of the Can Tho City Party Committee (term 2025-2030), the City simultaneously started and inaugurated many key projects on infrastructure, healthcare, agriculture, and social security. This is both a political activity and an affirmation of the determination to innovate and develop sustainably of Can Tho - the central city of the Mekong Delta.

Large-scale construction begins, infrastructure bottlenecks are cleared

According to the plan, on September 22, Can Tho will simultaneously organize groundbreaking and inauguration ceremonies. Of which, 13 projects with a scale of over 100 billion VND will be organized in a combination of direct and online forms; 5 projects under 100 billion VND will conduct groundbreaking and inauguration ceremonies according to regulations.

Most notably, the project to upgrade and expand National Highway 91 (from Km 0 to Km 7), the main gateway traffic route to Can Tho, has been seriously degraded for many years, often deeply flooded during heavy rains or high tides due to the unsynchronized drainage system. With a total investment of over 7,200 billion VND, the project is expected to be implemented in the period of 2023-2027, now officially starting construction, will contribute to solving congestion, reducing flooding, and opening up new development opportunities for the gateway area of ​​the City.

At the same time, Can Tho is also preparing to start a series of other projects: Construction and replacement of some weak bridges on Soc Trang road; Ba Lang road and bridge connecting Tan Phu Thanh Industrial Park; green urban development project adapting to climate change in Nga Bay City (old Hau Giang); resettlement areas in Ward 4 (old Vi Thanh City), Dong Phu 4 (Cai Tac town, Chau Thanh A - old Hau Giang); road from Y-shaped bridge to Vo Van Kiet Street, Soc Trang City (old Soc Trang).

These projects not only complete the transport and urban infrastructure system... but also open up opportunities to attract investment, create resettlement land funds, and serve industrial and residential development.

Simultaneous inauguration, improving quality of life, unleashing resources

Not only starting construction, Can Tho also inaugurated many projects, meeting the urgent needs of the people. Typical examples include: Model of providing mechanized services in agriculture; emergency embankment to prevent landslides of Cai San canal (Vinh Trinh commune, Can Tho city); Conference Center of O Mon ward; resettlement area serving Vinh Thanh Industrial Park (phase 1); resettlement areas of Mai Dam, Tan Hoa, Tan Phu Thanh (old Hau Giang ); Medical Center of My Xuyen district (old Soc Trang); and the non-budget investment project of Westfood Hau Giang Joint Stock Company.

These projects directly improve living conditions, create jobs, enhance medical and conference services, and promote modern and sustainable agricultural production. Can Tho people expect that when the projects come into operation, they will create a new look, improve the quality of life, improve the investment environment, promote economic development, and affirm Can Tho's central role in the Mekong Delta region.

Talking to the Government Electronic Newspaper, Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City Tran Van Lau emphasized: "In a short time, Can Tho leaders have focused on leading and directing this work with the highest sense of urgency, identifying it as an important task of the City. We have also established 6 working groups to urge, inspect, and promptly remove difficulties and obstacles so that the works and projects ensure progress, quality, and compliance with regulations."

Mr. Tran Van Lau affirmed that the simultaneous groundbreaking and inauguration of many key projects this time is not only an activity to welcome the 1st Congress of Can Tho City Party Committee and the 14th National Party Congress, but also demonstrates political determination in concretizing the goals of infrastructure, urban and socio-economic development, making Can Tho become the growth pole of the country.

Sustainable development drivers

The leaders of Can Tho City also assigned the Department of Finance to promptly compile and complete the list of projects to submit to the Standing Committee of the City People's Committee for consideration and decision; requested relevant departments and branches to prepare two more projects to register to welcome the 14th National Congress of the Party. This is a proactive way to spread the spirit of innovation, creativity and development, not only within the locality, but also contribute to shaping the appearance of the Mekong Delta region.

It can be seen that the projects started and inaugurated this time span many fields: Transportation, urban, resettlement, agriculture, healthcare, industry, etc. These are all strategic projects, both solving urgent immediate needs and paving the way for long-term development.

Roads and bridges are improved, healthcare and resettlement are also given attention. Hopefully in the next few years, Can Tho will change its appearance dramatically."
