According to Da Nang City Police, this morning (August 27), the Criminal Police Department, in coordination with professional units and local police under the City Police, arrested the suspect who robbed a gold shop on Nui Thanh Street (Da Nang City) while he was hiding in an apartment on Pham Tu Street, An Hai Ward, Da Nang City. According to initial information, the suspect, West Dale James (born in 1996, American nationality), entered Vietnam in early June 2025 and rented an apartment on Pham Tu Street, An Hai Ward.
Previously, at 7:50 p.m. on August 26, the Criminal Police Department received a report from the City Police Command Information Center about a robbery at a gold shop on Nui Thanh Street, Hoa Cuong Ward. Immediately after receiving the report, the Criminal Police Department urgently assigned forces to collect information and documents at the scene and deployed working groups to investigate the suspect.
Based on the results of the preliminary scene investigation, camera footage and statements from the gold shop manager and security guard, the police initially determined: At around 7:45 p.m. on August 26, the security guard was on duty on the sidewalk in front of the gold shop (above address) when he was suddenly hit several times in the back of the head by a man wearing a blue shirt, black helmet, gloves, face mask and backpack walking from behind, using a metal chisel (20 cm long), causing Mr. Th. to fall to the ground and be injured.
After that, the subject rushed into the gold shop, used a hammer (a hammer with two round heads, 40 cm long) to break two glass cabinets, took many pieces of jewelry and put them in a backpack, then quickly ran into a small alley on Nui Thanh Street, drove a motorbike (a scooter, without a license plate that the subject had left in advance) and escaped towards 2/9 Street.
Through the gold shop's inventory, the seized assets included 20 gold jewelry products of various types, of which 11 products had diamonds attached, with a total value of nearly 833 million VND.
Identifying the subject who committed the act very recklessly, the Criminal Police Department reported and was authorized by the City Police Director to establish a special project to mobilize all forces and means, coordinate with the Police of units and localities to verify and investigate overnight.
Under the direction of the City Police Director, at 10:30 a.m. on August 27, the Task Force identified and arrested the suspect, West Dale James (born in 1996), an American citizen, while he was hiding at a house on Pham Tu Street, An Hai Ward, Da Nang City.
Currently, the Criminal Police Department has seized evidence and means of committing the crime and continues to investigate and clarify the case.
