Officers and soldiers of Tam Chung Border Post (Muong Lat) participate in forest planting to contribute to greening bare land, bare hills and preventing soil erosion and leaching.
There are many causes of soil pollution that have been assessed and analyzed by the authorities, such as in industrial activities, factories often release chemicals and heavy metals into the soil, causing serious pollution. In agriculture , excessive use of pesticides, chemical fertilizers and plant protection agents (PPE) can cause the accumulation of toxic substances in the soil. In addition, the dumping of plastic waste, metals and other non-biodegradable materials into the environment is also a cause of soil pollution. Or improper waste treatment leads to the spread of pollutants into the soil... Polluted soil will directly affect human health; soil quality is reduced, losing the ability to support crops; destroying ecosystems, harming flora and fauna, and reducing biodiversity over time.
Faced with practical requirements, ministries and functional branches have recommended that authorities at all levels across the country need to raise awareness, consider land restoration and anti-land degradation as an inseparable part of the socio -economic development plan, an important task of the sustainable development process. In Thanh Hoa, in order to limit degradation and protect the soil environment, in recent times, functional branches and local authorities in the province have implemented many solutions such as: Strengthening State management of land resources; monitoring areas at risk of pollution; handling pesticide residues; paying attention to developing buffer zones; building crop and livestock structures suitable for each locality, region, and area; ensuring sustainable use of land resources, protecting and developing forests...
Among the above solutions, the province and relevant agencies pay special attention to the handling of pesticide residue points. According to statistics, there are 45 pesticide residue points in the province. Since the implementation of Decision No. 1946/QD-TTg dated October 21, 2010 of the Prime Minister, the province has thoroughly handled 13 points in some localities such as Vinh Long commune (Vinh Loc), Hai An ward (Nghi Son town), Minh Son commune (Trieu Son)... After being handled, the pesticide concentration results at the points were all below the permitted standards. For the remaining 32 pesticide residue points, through the survey and sampling assessment by relevant agencies, 27 points had lower pollution concentrations than QCVN 54:2013/BTNMT and were also removed from the list of serious environmental pollution points. Storage locations such as the storage area of plant protection chemicals at Trung Hung Chemical Factory, An Hung Ward ( Thanh Hoa City); the storage of plant protection chemicals at Co Diep Plant Protection Station, Vinh Phuc Commune (Vinh Loc); the storage of plant protection chemicals at Dinh Thon 1, Vinh An Commune (Vinh Loc)... have been and are being handled by the relevant authorities as required.
Along with the above tasks, to protect the soil environment, the agricultural and environmental sector recommends that people choose appropriate agricultural cultivation methods; use appropriate water, fertilizers, and animal feed; do not overuse inorganic fertilizers, which can cause soil to become hard, retain water poorly, and reduce soil fertility. Authorities at all levels and functional sectors should strengthen the management of waste treatment in livestock farming and agricultural by-products according to proper procedures; promote forest management, protection, and restoration activities, especially natural forests, to help prevent soil erosion and leaching. In waste treatment, functional sectors also recommend the application of advanced solid waste treatment technologies, limit landfilling; expand the collection and transportation network of waste, especially in rural areas; promote waste classification at source. In addition, each person needs to change the habit of using disposable plastic products and nylon bags in daily life, actively use environmentally friendly products...
Land is a special means of production, the most important component of the living environment, therefore protecting the soil environment is one of the urgent tasks in the process of sustainable development. Implementing good measures to protect the soil environment not only helps to reduce pollution but also makes an important contribution to improving the quality of life. This task is not the responsibility of any individual, it is the responsibility of the entire political system, of each citizen and the social community.
