Under the new policy framework, Australia will increase its international student intake to 295,000 by 2026, up 9% from the 270,000 intake in 2025.

Notably, Australian public universities will be allowed to apply for increased international enrolment quotas for 2026 if they demonstrate closer ties with the Southeast Asian region.

This could be through developing training programs, strengthening partnerships, expanding training facilities, building strong alumni networks and providing more scholarships to the region.

The policy is designed to align with the “Invested: Australia’s Southeast Asia Economic Strategy to 2040” strategy, which outlines Australia’s strategic vision for strengthening ties with its neighbours.

Australia mở rộng cửa, tạo

Vietnam is currently one of Australia's largest sources of international students.

Vietnam is currently one of Australia's largest sources of international students with more than 33,000 Vietnamese students studying here.

With the new policy, opportunities for Vietnamese students will be more open. Australian universities are encouraged to increase cooperation and investment in Vietnam, which means there will be more quality training programs, attractive scholarships and better career opportunities for Vietnamese students.

Australian Ambassador to Vietnam, Ms. Gillian Bird, emphasized that education is the foundation of the relationship between Australia and Vietnam and these new efforts will strengthen the connection between the two peoples and promote investment in Vietnam.
