Nguy Nhu Kon Tum (1913 - 1991) was a leading professor in Vietnam at one time . Professor Nguy Nhu Kon Tum was originally from Hue but was born and raised in Kon Tum. His father was Mr. Nguy Nhu Bich - a postmaster , a famous doctor, who for many years took his wife and children to work in the Central Highlands and Laos, often naming his children born there after taking the names of the places. Therefore, in addition to Nguy Nhu Kon Tum, his older sister was named Nguy Nhu Ban Me Thuot.
After the historic September 2, 1945 of the country, President Ho Chi Minh met this professor and invited him to become the Minister of Education (now the Ministry of Education and Training ). In response to Uncle Ho, he tactfully refused: "The Minister of Education must be someone with extensive expertise in social sciences and humanities to manage and innovate well. I am a natural scientist, I am afraid it will be difficult to complete the task."
After that, he nominated Professor Nguyen Van Huyen to hold the position of Ministerof Education , and for his part, he happily accepted the position of Director of Secondary Education (under the Ministry of Education).

In 1951, Professor Nguy Nhu Kon Tum taught at the Central Campus in Nanning, China. Three years later, the professor returned to Vietnam, teaching Physics at the University of Science Education. In 1956, he became the first principal of Hanoi University of Science and held that position for 26 years.
Applying his profound knowledge of Physics, he and Professor Nguyen Xien joined hands to build the Vietnam Geophysics industry. Professor Nguy Nhu Kon Tum was also the leader of the delegation of Vietnamese scientists who attended the first international Geophysics conference in Moscow, Russia in 1957.
He passed away in 1991. To commemorate the patriotic intellectual, Hanoi has a street named after him. In Hanoi National University, there is also a hall named after Nguy Nhu Kon Tum. In Kon Tum province alone, a street, a school and a scholarship fund are also named after the respected professor.

The Vietnam Physics Association is a voluntary professional social organization, operating in the fields of research, teaching, application and dissemination of knowledge about Physics, established on August 15, 1966 in Hanoi by Professor Ta Quang Buu, Nguyen Nhu Kon Tum and Dinh Ngoc Lan.
Professor Nguyen Nhu Kon Tum was the president of the Vietnam Physics Association in the first two terms, lasting from 1966 to 1991.

Professor Nguyen Nhu Kon Tum was awarded the title of Meritorious Teacher before retiring in 1982. In 1990, he was awarded the title of People's Teacher by the State on the occasion of Vietnam Teachers' Day, November 20.
In addition to the field of education, he is also a social activist with many roles such as a National Assembly delegate of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th terms, a member of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, a member of the Presidium of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, Chief Secretary of the Vietnam Education Trade Union, a member of the Executive Committee of the World Education Trade Union, and a member of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam - France Friendship Association.

The road named after Professor Nguy Nhu Kon Tum is 1,100 m long, stretching from Khuat Duy Tien Street to Nhan Hoa Street, crossing Nguyen Tuan and Vu Trong Phung Streets, in Thanh Xuan District, Hanoi. Professor Nguy Nhu Kon Tum is also named after a hall of Hanoi National University. In Kon Tum Province, there is also a road, a school and a scholarship fund named after him.
