80 years of VNA: Pioneering mark in digital transformation and application of Artificial Intelligence

On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Vietnam News Agency's Traditional Day (September 15, 1945 - September 15, 2025), President of Yonhap News Agency (South Korea) Hwang Dae Il shared with VNA reporters in Seoul his impressions of VNA, as well as the cooperative relationship between the two news agencies.

According to Mr. Hwang Dae Il, with a network of more than 1,000 reporters across the country, along with 30 representative offices abroad, VNA has long affirmed its position as Vietnam's leading press agency in terms of scale and influence.

VNA is considered a reliable address, quickly announcing official information of the Party, State and Government , and promptly conveying the country's situation to the public at home and abroad.

He assessed that VNA's diverse publications have contributed to providing fast and accurate news sources to global readers, in which the daily volume of news, photos, graphics and multimedia products have become important references for many international news agencies, including Yonhap.

Yonhap reporters stationed in Hanoi also regularly refer to and quote news from VNA.

Referring to the cooperation process, Mr. Hwang Dae Il said that Yonhap and VNA have accompanied the strong development in Vietnam-Korea bilateral relations since 1992.

The increasingly close cooperation is demonstrated through the exchange of news, photos, videos , graphics as well as annual personnel exchange activities at many levels.

Among the 97 news agencies from 82 countries that cooperate with Yonhap, VNA is considered one of the most committed partners.

Notably, in 2022, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations, the two companies coordinated to organize a press photo exhibition in Seoul and Hanoi.

Recently, on August 12, during the State visit of General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam To Lam to Korea, the two sides signed an agreement to extend cooperation, adding provisions on Yonhap's Vietnamese news service - marking a new step forward in the strategic relationship between the two national news agencies.

Chairman Yonhap also assessed VNA as one of the leading news agencies in the Asia-Pacific region in the field of digital transformation and innovation, especially the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

At the discussion session of the Council of the Organization of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA) in Kuala Lumpur in February 2025, VNA representatives introduced in detail achievements in applying digital technology to the entire process of news production, editing and distribution, including the CMS system, user data analysis, machine translation, information verification and keyword suggestions.

These efforts have helped VNA improve the quality of its content, put readers at the center, and made a strong impression on Yonhap's leadership.

Regarding the international position of VNA, Mr. Hwang Dae Il affirmed that the Vietnamese national news agency has for many years held the role of a permanent member of the OANA Council, clearly demonstrating its responsibility and pioneering role in common activities.

VNA successfully hosted the 2019 OANA Council meeting in Hanoi and regularly participated in presenting papers at the meetings.

The prestigious awards that VNA has continuously achieved, including the OANA Award 2017-2018 and the First Prize at the “OANA Award 2024”, are considered proof of the prestige and increasing position of VNA in the international and regional press community./.
