Natural therapy for holistic health
No longer a fad, yoga has now become a sustainable healthy living choice for millions of people, especially office workers, middle-aged people, the elderly or people recovering from illness. Poses that seem simple such as “baby”, “cat-cow”, “cobra” or “bending over” bring significant effects, helping to relax the nerves, circulate blood and improve overall health.
In Dong Xoai city, yoga classes at Phuong Anh Yoga Club, Sun Yoga, Tuyet Nga Yoga, X-men Gym and Dong Xoai Yoga, Home Yoga… are all fully booked. It is not difficult to see office ladies waking up early to welcome the sunrise on colorful mats. The 5am class at Sun Yoga is always full of students, rain or shine. For many people, this is not only a place to practice physical fitness but also a spiritual meeting place - a place to connect and spread positive energy every day.

After the Covid-19 pandemic, many people have to face long-term consequences such as fatigue, anxiety, insomnia, and depression. Mr. Tien Trung (43 years old, Dong Xoai City) shared: “I used to be stressed, had shallow breathing, and had trouble sleeping. After being introduced by friends, I tried practicing yoga every morning. Surprisingly, after 6 weeks, I slept better, breathed deeper, and felt alive again.”
Yoga is not a substitute for modern medicine, but today, doctors consider it an effective complementary therapy for treatment and recovery. For those who have experienced major health events, yoga is like a “lifesaver” for both body and mind.
After practicing yoga for a while, Ms. Pham Thi Van (bottom) confided: "I forgot that I was once seriously ill."
Ms. Pham Thi Van (65 years old, Tan Phu ward, Dong Xoai city) underwent two surgeries and chemotherapy for breast cancer in 2018 and thyroid cancer in 2023. She started practicing yoga on the advice of her doctor, and has been doing it for 6 years now. Ms. Van shared her experience: “In the early days, I was almost exhausted and panicked. But thanks to yoga, I learned to breathe deeply, love my body and slow down. Now, I almost forget that I was seriously ill. I hope that anyone who is unfortunate enough to be in the same situation as me will persevere. Yoga can really bring you back.”
Not just a personal feeling, medical organizations such as the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) have confirmed that yoga is an effective supportive therapy for cancer patients, helping to improve sleep, stabilize emotions, reduce anxiety and increase quality of life.
“I choose yoga instead of expensive cosmetics or cosmetic surgery” - Ms. My Loan (above) shared
Connecting with Dr. Nguyen Huu Hoa, an oncologist in Ho Chi Minh City, about the benefits of yoga in supporting treatment, he affirmed: “Yoga is a safe method, suitable for all ages, especially effective for cancer patients during treatment and recovery. In the US, Australia, and India, yoga is also included in integrated treatment programs.”
"Youth lasts" from the yoga mat
In addition to improving health, yoga is also considered a “companion of youth”. Regular practice helps regulate hormones, improve sleep, slow down the aging process and maintain a balanced figure.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Nguyet (46 years old), an office worker in Binh Phuoc , said: "After 3 years of practicing yoga, I find myself having fewer minor illnesses, sleeping better and always full of energy at work." Ms. Phan My Loan (41 years old), a sales employee, considers yoga "the secret to maintaining radiant skin, figure and spirit without the need for expensive cosmetics or cosmetic surgery."

The health benefits of yoga are obvious, but one of the most common barriers that many people have when trying yoga is the fear of “not being flexible enough,” “not being age appropriate,” or “having trouble keeping up with class.” But in reality, this sport has no limits.
“Yoga does not require you to be as flexible as a dancer, nor does it discriminate against age or physical condition. The important thing is perseverance. Just practice properly for about 30 minutes a day, whether at home, at the gym or online, and you will clearly feel the change” - coach Nguyen Thi Thanh Hang, Sun Yoga Club shared.
On weekends, Dong Xoai City Square becomes an outdoor yoga practice area for many clubs , creating a beautiful picture of vitality and community connection.
Outdoor Yoga - a place to connect health and community
Not only the trainers, but also the students at yoga facilities agree: Yoga does not promise instant miracles, but if you practice persistently, you will feel the priceless gift: a healthy body, a peaceful mind and a more balanced life in every breath. That is the reason why from bustling cities to peaceful countryside, yoga is quietly creeping into the lives of many people - as a gentle reminder: Slow down, breathe deeper and feel more.
June 21 is designated by the United Nations as International Yoga Day - a global affirmation of the healing value of this discipline for body, mind and spirit. In an official statement, UN Secretary-General António Guterres affirmed: “Yoga can reduce anxiety, enhance mental health, build discipline and patience, and connect people to the planet itself.” |
