Tan Thanh Commune determined to reach the new rural finish line on schedule

Prosperity thanks to new rural areas

Tan Thanh commune was established at the end of 2024, on the basis of merging the entire natural area and population of Hoa Phuc, Hoa Tien and Hoa Thanh communes. After its establishment, the commune continued to promote propaganda and mobilize people to join hands in building the new rural area; at the same time, integrating programs and projects to invest in building essential infrastructure, developing production, creating jobs and increasing income for people.

In the past 5 years, Tan Thanh commune has mobilized 44 billion VND to build new rural areas. This capital, combined with other capital sources, has helped the locality invest in building many roads, schools, medical facilities, etc. Thereby contributing to the completion of rural infrastructure, serving the needs of economic development, and improving the appearance of the commune.

Head of Yen Binh village, Tan Thanh commune, Le Thi Minh shared: “To join hands in building the new rural area, the village front committee has encouraged people to donate land to build roads, collect garbage, regularly clean the roads, and install lighting equipment for people to travel conveniently. In terms of economy, we encourage people to promote afforestation, animal husbandry, business development, and services to create jobs, increase income, and reduce poverty.”

Up to now, the whole Tan Thanh commune has over 448 hectares of agricultural land, thousands of hectares of planted forests, and a herd of over 3,800 cattle. Many households have switched from small-scale farming to effective concentrated farming. In the area, there are also many businesses and production facilities operating effectively, creating jobs for hundreds of workers. Ms. Dinh Thi My Huong, Ong Chinh village, Tan Thanh commune confided: "Implementing the construction of the new rural area, in 2021, my family renovated the mixed garden to grow fruit trees and raise civets. In the process of developing production, my family has received attention and support from the commune, so the model is growing more and more."

Currently, Ms. Huong uses about 200 square meters of garden land to build cages for raising civets, the rest she grows fruit trees and vegetables to serve the civets, providing daily food. On average, each year, her family sells over 100 civets for breeding and commercial civets to the market. In addition, she also trades in wooden furniture and construction materials, bringing in an income of over 1 billion VND/year after deducting expenses.

In addition to developing cultivation and livestock, Tan Thanh commune also mobilizes and creates conditions for over 100 people to go abroad to work, providing vocational training for 420 workers. Thanks to promoting activities to build new rural areas, the number of poor households in the area has decreased by 7.7% annually (currently 162 households, accounting for 11.75%). The appearance of new rural areas is increasingly improving, the essential infrastructure system has been basically invested, meeting the needs of daily life, production, and improving the quality of life of the people.

Chairman of Tan Thanh Commune People's Committee Dinh Van Chinh said: "To achieve that result, the Party Committee, the Commune People's Committee, organizations, unions and people have proactively followed the set of new rural criteria according to regulations; mobilized all resources and selected methods of building new rural areas suitable to the actual situation of the locality, helping people promote their role as the main subject, creating a competitive atmosphere among villages in building new rural areas".

There are many difficulties

Despite many positive results, the construction of the new rural area in Tan Thanh commune still faces many difficulties. According to Mr. Dinh Van Chinh, these difficulties are mainly due to the process of merging villages and communes, causing the village cultural house and medical station built before to become overloaded, not meeting the requirements when there are many people. Mobilizing internal resources from the people is very limited, especially the criteria that require large capital sources. In addition, the production habits of the people are still backward, the cultivated land area is small, still spontaneous, following the movement, so the economic efficiency is not high...

Currently, Tan Thanh commune still has 7 NTM criteria that have not been met, including: Cultural facilities, residential housing, income, multidimensional poor households, labor, production organization and rural economic development, health, environment and food safety. In order to overcome difficulties and complete the remaining criteria, the People's Committee of the commune has issued documents to direct and implement in accordance with the regulations of the set of criteria and actual conditions in the locality.

Tan Thanh commune has achieved 11/19 criteria for building a new rural area, including: Planning, transportation, irrigation and disaster prevention, electricity, schools, rural commercial infrastructure, information and communication, education and training, culture, political system and access to law, national defense and security. With the criteria not yet achieved, the commune is making efforts to implement with the determination to reach the new rural area goal by 2027.

Regarding housing, the commune has received attention from the Government, the province, organizations and individuals through the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses, so this criterion has basically been achieved. Regarding income criteria, the People's Committee of the commune will continue to mobilize people to focus on converting crop structure, planning specialized crop growing areas; bringing high-yield and high-quality plants and breeds into production. In addition, the People's Committee of Tan Thanh commune also propagates and supports people to develop livestock farming in the direction of high-tech farms and ranches.

With the employment criteria, Tan Thanh Commune People's Committee is focusing on attracting businesses to invest in agriculture, investing in synchronous infrastructure, developing trade, services, and small-scale industries in rural areas to attract workers, create jobs, and increase income for people.
