Difficult days in the new land

When they first arrived at the headquarters of the Women's Union of Phu Tho province, many union officials from the former Vinh Phuc and Hoa Binh provinces were surprised because everything was strange and new. Ms. Bui Thi My - Deputy Head of the Women's Affairs Department shared: "In the first days of working at the headquarters, I chose to go back and forth during the day by shared car, because my husband is a soldier and is rarely at home, while at home there is a 75-year-old mother and 2 small children. I leave the house at 5am every day and return home at almost 7pm. Traveling nearly 200km every day, I found that my health did not allow it, so I rented a house to stay, only coming home 1-2 times a week. Because the children are still young, I have to hire someone to take them to and from school, and remind them to eat and sleep at night by phone."

Instead of renting a room to stay like Ms. My, Ms. Nguyen Thi Kieu Anh - a specialist of the Women's Working Group chose to go and return in one day. She said: "My house is in Quang Minh commune ( Hanoi ), before the province was merged, I traveled 50km to and from the province every day. Now that I work at the head office, I have to travel twice the distance". Explaining the reason for going and returning in one day, Ms. Kieu Anh said: My child is just over 2 years old so I cannot stay, and moving the whole family to the new provincial center is still difficult...

Not only Ms. My or Ms. Kieu Anh, the Union officials in the first days of working at the new headquarters faced many difficulties. But one thing that did not change was the spirit of dedication, the enthusiastic heart and the pride of carrying on their shoulders the mission for the development of women. Ms. Kha Thi Luan - Vice President of the Provincial Women's Union affirmed: In the first days of operating the two-level local government, despite many difficulties, more than 30 Union officials still stayed close to the grassroots, on sunny days as well as rainy days, they always accompanied, listened and connected for the development of women.

Overcoming difficulties to maintain the passion for the profession

Staff of the Women's Affairs Department of the Phu Tho Provincial Women's Union regularly exchange and support each other in their work.

Unite to keep the flow of work smooth

Implementing the policy of merging provinces, the Provincial Women's Union has proactively arranged offices for staff so that all work can be carried out smoothly and effectively. Vice President of the Provincial Women's Union Kha Thi Luan said that since the policy was issued, the Union has proactively repaired facilities and arranged offices to ensure space and good conditions for staff. In addition, the Union also created conditions to arrange a collective kitchen for staff to have lunch. Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Thuan - a specialist of the Women's Affairs Department shared: In the first days of moving from Hoa Binh to the headquarters to work, the Union's leaders created conditions for us to arrange a lunch kitchen at the office, which helped us save time and ensure our health. Not only that, our colleagues in Phu Tho were also very enthusiastic in supporting us to quickly approach the work.

Right from the first days of working together, the working atmosphere in the provincial Women's Union headquarters was always urgent but full of affection. Departments and offices closely coordinated, assigning tasks reasonably so as not to interrupt work. Ms. Tran Thuy Anh - Deputy Head of the Women's Affairs Department from Vinh Phuc said: When working at the new agency, everyone was unfamiliar, but thanks to the sincerity and openness of the collective, we quickly integrated. Every day going to work, although tired, still felt warm because everyone considered each other as family.

Initial concerns were quickly alleviated thanks to the special attention from the Association's leaders. In the early stages, the women regularly asked, encouraged, listened and promptly resolved needs and recommendations, from small things like purchasing supplies to big things like arranging schools for children and stabilizing family life. Ms. Bui Thi My confided: The encouragement and support from the Association's leaders helped us feel that this place is our second home. Despite the difficulties, it never extinguished the passion for the profession in us...

Looking back over the past two months, it can be seen that the staff of the Phu Tho Provincial Women's Union have overcome many challenges to ensure smooth work. They have proven that despite changing circumstances, the flame of their profession - their love for women's work - is always burning brightly.
