Vietnamese lychee present in demanding markets

Besides the traditional market of Japan, the company is expanding exports to the US, EU, and Middle East markets to enhance the brand and expand the market for Vietnamese lychee.
“The quality of Vietnamese lychees is increasingly improving, so the company has plans to promote trade with partners. Since the beginning of the season, the company has accompanied the garden to harvest, pre-process, process and export,” Mr. Tien shared.
Along with Ameii, Red Dragon Production, Trade and Service Company Limited also exports Vietnamese lychee to markets in Japan, the United States, and Australia. “The company processes and packages about 20 tons per day. This year the lychees are beautiful and not wormy. The company has also received export orders to Australia,” said Mr. Mai Xuan Thin, Director of Red Dragon Production, Trade and Service Company Limited.
According to Ms. Do Linh Nham, Deputy Director of Toan Cau Food Import-Export Joint Stock Company (Luc Ngan District, Bac Giang Province), this year's lychee has the best output and price in many years. The company is receiving many export orders to Japan, Taiwan (China)... The company's lychee is also consumed by partners in the Aeon supermarket chain in Japan.
Capture a billion dollar market share
According to the report “Lychee Market Size and Share Analysis - Growth Trends and Forecast 2023 - 2028” by Research and Markets, the global lychee market is on a strong growth trajectory, with the value forecast to skyrocket from USD 6.73 billion in 2023 to USD 8.79 billion in 2028, achieving a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5.5% during this period.
China is the world's largest producer and exporter of lychees, with an annual output of about 2 million tons. Chinese lychees are exported to many major markets around the world, including the United States, Canada, the EU, Hong Kong (China), Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines and Malaysia.
Vietnam holds the second position, constantly consolidating its position in the global lychee market. Vietnam's harvest output in 2025 is expected to reach 303,000 tons, up 30% compared to 2024.
Vietnamese lychees are now available in more than 30 countries and territories around the world, meeting the demands of the most high-end markets. The main export markets for Vietnamese lychees are China, the United States, Japan and the EU. Vietnam is investing significantly in improving quality and logistics to enhance its competitiveness.
Vietnamese lychees are imported by Japanese enterprises and sold in Fukushima, Aichi, Niigata provinces... with the selling price to consumers of about 1,800 yen/kg (about 310,000 VND/kg). Supermarkets in France are also distributing Vietnamese lychees at the price of 500,000 - 600,000 VND/kg.
Mr. Nguyen Van Tho, Deputy Head of the Trade Management Department (Department of Industry and Trade of Bac Giang province) said that businesses also ordered large quantities of lychee for export to high-end markets. Accordingly, import and distribution businesses in the EU plan to buy about 200 tons of lychee to bring to the supermarket system in this area; about 150 tons to bring to US market and Canada; 200 tons to Japan and 200 tons to Australia.
Talking to reporters of Cong Thuong Newspaper, Mr. Huynh Tan Dat - Director of the Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection said that Vietnam is the country with the second largest lychee production in the world, of which, Bac Giang, Hai Duong are the localities with the largest lychee output in the country. Vietnamese lychee has been exported to demanding markets, so it is completely possible to promote to expand to new markets.
Currently, we have 469 growing area codes with a total area of 19,377 hectares and 55 packaging facility codes for markets in China, Australia, Thailand, Japan, and the United States, granted to the provinces of Hai Duong, Bac Giang, Hung Yen, Dak Lak, and Quang Ninh.
However, with the total national lychee output estimated at 303,000 tons, while the lychee harvest season takes place in a short period of time, therefore, along with the export of fresh lychee, investment in deep processing such as freeze-drying, juicing, freezing whole fruit... also needs to be promoted.
