In the ranking of "The most powerful passports in the world 2024", Vietnam ranked 87th, down 5 places compared to the last time.

According to the ranking of the most powerful passports in 2024 - Henley Passport Index announced by global residence and citizenship consulting firm Henley & Partners on January 10, Vietnam ranked 87th out of 104 places, down 5 places compared to the most recent ranking in July 2023. However, the number of countries and territories that Vietnamese citizens are allowed to enter without a visa or apply for a visa at the border gate remains unchanged, still 55 points.

There are 6 passports ranked as "most powerful" including two familiar names Japan, Singapore and 4 European countries Italy, Germany, France and Spain. Citizens of these 6 countries can enter without a visa or only need to apply for a visa at the border in 194 countries and territories - the highest number recorded since the Henley Passport Index began publishing the rankings 19 years ago.

The new rankings also show a “triumphant European rise” with more names appearing in the top 2, 3 and 4 than in previous years. Finland and Sweden are tied for second place with South Korea. Austria, Denmark, Ireland and the Netherlands are third. Belgium, Luxembourg, Norway, Portugal and the UK are in fourth place, while Greece, Malta and Switzerland are in fifth place.

The UAE is the country with the highest index increase in the past 10 years. In 2014, 77 countries and territories accepted visa-free or visa-on-arrival for UAE citizens. In 2024, this number will be 183 destinations, putting the UAE in the top 11 of the most powerful passports in the world.
