At the meeting, Deputy Minister Dang Hoang Giang welcomed Ms. Caroline Tinashe Nyamayemombe, highly appreciating the role and contribution of UN Women in promoting gender equality, women's advancement and women's empowerment. Over the past 25 years, the United Nations in general and UN Women in particular have always accompanied and supported Vietnam in many fields, especially in closely cooperating in the process of building the National Action Program for Women, Peace and Security (WPS NAP) which was recently approved by the Prime Minister in January 2024.
Affirming that gender equality is one of the focuses in Vietnam's socio -economic development strategies, policies and plans, especially when 2025 marks the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action - a historic document in promoting gender equality and empowering women globally, the Deputy Minister said that Vietnam has always actively participated in the agenda on gender equality and women's advancement at the regional and global levels.
On this occasion, the Deputy Minister emphasized three priority areas in gender equality that Vietnam affirmed at the 69th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) of the United Nations Economic and Social Council recently: Perfecting the institutional, legal and policy framework to promote women's equal participation; increasing women's economic power and ensuring women's equal participation in the labor market, through promoting public-private partnerships to mobilize social resources to support women and recognize, reduce and redistribute unpaid housework and care work; enhancing women's participation, contribution and leadership in the fields of STEM, innovation, digital transformation; proposing research to build STEM ecosystem models in each country, in which women and girls are encouraged, supported, oriented to study, train and develop their careers in fields such as artificial intelligence, renewable energy, digital economy, etc.

Sharing some of Vietnam's achievements in gender equality, the Deputy Minister hoped that Ms. Caroline Tinashe Nyamayemombe would continue to actively contribute to promoting the cooperation between UN Women and Vietnam in the coming time, effectively implementing the Vietnam-United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Strategic Framework for the 2022-2026 period and the National Action Program on Women, Peace and Security.
For her part, Ms. Caroline Tinashe Nyamayemombe highly appreciated Vietnam's outstanding achievements in socio-economic development and international integration, affirming that UN Women will continue to support Vietnam in promoting gender equality and women's advancement, and empowering women. UN Women and she personally will closely coordinate with other UN organizations to effectively and synchronously implement programs, contributing to supporting Vietnam in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals, cooperation on women and science and technology, and narrowing the digital gap.
