On September 5, the UN General Assembly adopted a Resolution on preparations for the High-Level Conference on Epidemic Prevention and Control, co-chaired by Ambassador Do Hung Viet, Head of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the UN, and Ambassador Paula Narvaez, Head of the Permanent Mission of Chile to the UN.
According to the Resolution, the High-Level Conference on Epidemic Prevention and Control will take place in September 2026 at the UN Headquarters in New York within the framework of the High-Level Week of the 81st Session of the UN General Assembly with the theme "Promoting a multilateral and intergenerational approach to preventing, preparing for and responding to pandemics and health emergencies, based on the principles of equity and solidarity".
The resolution also encourages broad participation at the highest levels of member states, international organizations, non- governmental organizations, academia, the private sector and the community to share and exchange lessons learned and strengthen global cooperation in disease prevention and control.

The newly adopted resolution emphasizes the urgent need to strengthen preparedness for future global health emergencies and advocates a comprehensive approach, involving all government agencies and the entire society to achieve this goal.
The resolution calls for strengthening multilateral commitments, promoting close cooperation between member states and UN agencies, especially the World Health Organization (WHO), and affirms the need to ensure the development, distribution and access to vaccines in a fair and timely manner to overcome shortcomings in disease prevention, preparation and response.
The appointment of Vietnam as co-coordinator of the above Resolution by the President of the UN General Assembly is a recognition and trust of the international community in Vietnam's achievements and positive contributions to global disease prevention and control in recent times.
Speaking at the meeting, Vice President of the UN General Assembly Gheorghe Leucă, on behalf of member states, respectfully thanked the two Ambassadors of Vietnam and Chile for their proactive and active consultations, contributing significantly to promoting the preparation process for this important and meaningful Summit.
