About the forbidden things

Báo Tuổi TrẻBáo Tuổi Trẻ11/11/2024

The National Assembly has just discussed the things that teachers are not allowed to do, especially the prohibition of teachers accepting money from students. Many people who respect the teaching profession are wondering: Should we ban it or not, and how?

In a civilized society, the more legalized behavior is, the more necessary it is, and this should not be excluded from people in any profession.

Avoiding or referring to sensitive issues in general and vague terms only complicates implementation and creates many precedents. It also becomes unfair between different industries and subjects.

The Law on Teachers, in addition to provisions on incentives, honors and protections, cannot help but include specific prohibitions and prohibitions.

Fully understanding, many true teachers will not only not feel sad but also be happy because the law will help to avoid mixing "gold and brass", reducing "one bad apple spoiling the barrel".

"Prohibiting forcing students to pay money in any form" is one of the most prohibited things that needs to be prohibited. It is not only stipulated in the law, it also needs to be specified in the code of conduct for teachers in each school.

Teaching is a special profession, so it is always subject to stricter scrutiny from society. Others may be allowed to dress comfortably, but teachers are not.

Others may be forgiven for speaking inappropriately, but teachers are not. What is easily accepted in other professions is easily condemned in the teaching profession. From a certain perspective, this strictness is also because the teaching profession is placed in a high position.

People need education as a foundation and the one who brings that foundation is the teacher. Those who enter the teaching profession need to know that in advance. And the "prohibitions" should be included early and fully in the teacher training program.

However, in reality, "receiving money" from students is more difficult to enforce than any other prohibition, because it depends on factors beyond the teacher's subjectivity. These are the mechanism, the working environment, and the behavior of students and parents.

Many parents today, especially those with children in lower grades, use money to buy peace of mind about their teachers. There are some things that are solved with money instead of letting their children be treated fairly.

Frustrated with negativity, many parents still spend money on negativity and rely on their love for their children to forgive themselves. Many people play the role of both victim and offender.

They are not innocent. In other words, if the law only "bans teachers", it will be difficult to implement because there are thousands of ways to circumvent the law. The teaching profession is not only sensitive and subject to pressure, but also full of temptations.

Helping teachers overcome temptations also requires a change in awareness from students and parents. More importantly, there needs to be a qualitative change in school governance and teacher management in schools.

Those who do right should be recognized, those who do wrong must be strictly responsible for their actions.

With the change in perception in the behavior of teachers and towards teachers, the gratitude to teachers on occasions like today will truly be restored to its true meaning. And no one has to feel sad because of the "prohibition".
