After the death of referee Tran Dinh Thinh, VFF president advised to 'monitor yourself more seriously'

On the afternoon of August 6, at the headquarters of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), the closing ceremony of the training course for referee supervisors and referees of the 2025-2026 national professional football tournaments took place.

Here, VFF leaders, the Referee Board, referee supervisors and referees held a silent ceremony to commemorate the late referee Tran Dinh Thinh, who unfortunately passed away on August 4 after the physical test at the beginning of the training course.

VFF President Tran Quoc Tuan shared: "While on a business trip in China, I was shocked and saddened to hear about the unexpected incident of referee Tran Dinh Thinh. I am very sorry that we have lost a friend and a talented colleague of the federation."

Although he was abroad on August 4, Mr. Tuan still promptly directed from afar the coordination of the funeral arrangements for referee Thinh.

Mr. Tuan continued: "This is a big disadvantage for Vietnamese referees and Vietnamese football. Through this, referees also need to be well prepared and monitor themselves more seriously in this special job. This is a warning not only for referees but also for athletes participating in the national championship. Let's listen to our bodies."

Reporting on the summary of the training session, Head of the VFF Referee Board Dang Thanh Ha informed: "After 5 days, we have updated the changes in competition rules, drawn lessons from the mistakes of the previous season, and at the same time checked the physical and professional exercises and reviewed specific exercises on the field.

There were 7 cases of substandard performance and 1 unfortunate case happened to referee Tran Dinh Thinh. In the atmosphere of mourning referee Thinh, the referees still tried hard and did their job well."

At the closing ceremony, VFF leaders awarded certificates and duty cards to referee supervisors and referees ahead of the 2025-2026 season.
