Artificial Intelligence (AI) includes a variety of different techniques and tools that have been developed and put into use in the field of journalism with many outstanding advantages.

Many reporters and editors working at press agencies have used AI to search for data, write articles, edit, manage content and interact with users. Through the basic features of AI, journalists can save time, effort and speed up the production of news and articles. Thanks to that, journalists can bring news to the public accurately and in the fastest time.

Some basic features of AI used by many journalists include: voice text input, text-to-speech conversion, content translation into multiple languages, image analysis and recognition... From the information entered by reporters, AI can create content and create news articles.

In addition, AI also helps journalists summarize the content of large documents and texts, respond to user requests and topics, and suggest scripts, characters, and interview topics. Press agencies apply AI to exploit information from social networking sites to provide news articles based on user habits or predict topics that may attract readers.

Sharing about the impact of AI on modern journalism, Ms. Katherine Maher, former CEO of Wikimedia Foundation said: "AI has the power to revolutionize journalism, enhancing our ability to collect, process and analyze information at an unprecedented scale. However, it is important that we use this technology responsibly, ensuring transparency, accuracy and fairness to maintain public trust."

As AI is creating a major revolution in the field of journalism, many press agencies around the world have proactively applied modern technologies and received positive feedback from readers. Among them, the US newspaper The Washington Post has used Heliograf - an internal AI tool - to scan social media, news and other sources, then synthesize and select breaking news. Next, journalists can use machine learning algorithms to write articles in real time.

Similarly, The New York Times in the US uses Samara - an AI system that can scan Twitter and other social media platforms to identify emerging stories and trends. With the powerful support of AI, The New York Times reporters can bring readers stories based on their interests and reading history.

AFP uses AI to detect photos that have been manipulated or used by newspapers around the world without the agency's permission. Meanwhile, The Canadian Press uses AI to develop a system to speed up translation so that readers in many countries around the world can read news and articles in different languages.

Finland's largest daily newspaper, Helsingin Sanomat, focuses on using AI for information collection and research tasks such as translation, data investigation support, and automatic timeline creation for articles and stories.

Der Spiegel - Europe's largest and most famous German news magazine and many other newsrooms and press agencies have been testing the use of AI to check for plagiarism in articles, integrating this function into the editorial office's content management system (CMS)...

Keeping up with the times, on March 18, 2025, the Italian newspaper Il Foglio became the first paper to use AI for the entire publishing process including: creating articles, headlines, quotes to refining news and article content. This is part of Il Foglio's month-long experiment aimed at showing the impact of AI technology "on the way we work and live". This change of Il Foglio has attracted great public attention.

Not outside the world trend, many press agencies in Vietnam have used AI very early, participating in the national digital transformation. Typically, the VietnamPlus e-newspaper of the Vietnam News Agency has applied the Wochit tool to produce short videos since 2016.

In 2019, Dan Tri online newspaper introduced AI voice technology to all articles. Accordingly, readers do not need to read the entire news article as before but can listen to all the content of the articles published on this online newspaper thanks to AI.

Similarly, many major newspapers such as VnExpress apply AI in producing podcasts, news summaries, filtering readers' comments, and checking keywords in articles. Thanh Nien newspaper uses AI to support automatic article arrangement on the homepage, suggesting related news based on readers' behavior.

Lao Dong Newspaper uses AI in business processes such as: producing news articles to create newsletters using virtual editors, translating all content into English versions, creating English subtitles for videos.
