"I just wish I had 100% health insurance so I could be treated for the rest of my life..."

(Dan Tri) - "The last surgery cost tens of millions of dong, I don't know how much longer I can hold out. Now I just hope to have 100% health insurance to treat my illness until the end of my life," the old woman in the wheelchair burst into tears.

Early in the morning of August 23, Ms. Nguyen Thi Luong Ton (74 years old) was pushed by her husband in a wheelchair with difficulty to Thu Duc General Hospital (formerly Thu Duc City Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City), to wait to receive support gifts at the launching ceremony of the brand identity and implementation of social security activities of the above unit.

Pointing to her tightly bandaged leg, Ms. Ton choked up as she said that she had just had her third surgery because of complications of diabetes that caused necrosis and infection in her foot. In addition, she had been in and out of the hospital many times to treat her heart valve stenosis.

A few years ago, her husband, Mr. Doan Van Dung, also suffered from a serious health problem and had difficulty moving after a stroke. Since then, the couple has been living off the money their son earns from his work. But as time went on, their condition became more and more serious.

“The last surgery cost tens of millions of dong, I don’t know how much longer I can hold on. Today, the hospital and the social security organization considered giving me a support receipt, my wife and I are very grateful.

Now I just hope to have health insurance that covers 100% of my medical expenses so that I can be treated for the rest of my life, without being a burden to my husband and children...", Ms. Luong Ton burst into tears.

Sitting nearby, Mrs. Huynh Thi Thu (57 years old, living in Thu Duc ward) was also sad, as her 5-year-old grandson named X. has been living in a wheelchair for the past 2 years.

Ms. Thu recalled that 2 years ago, when he was healthy, baby X suddenly had a seizure and had to be transferred to a pediatric hospital for treatment, remaining in a coma for 26 days. After examination and testing, doctors found that the baby had a rare genetic mutation that caused epilepsy and hemiplegia.

“At that time, my grandchild was thought to be dead, but luckily the doctor gave him 12 injections of special medicine and he survived. Baby X’s mother left when he was 5 months old, and now his father works as a bus ticket inspector to raise his child. In my free time, I also have to collect scrap metal to earn some extra money.

My family's circumstances are very difficult, so to me, the hospital's program to support the poor today is very meaningful," said Ms. Thu before walking with her grandchild to the gift receiving area.

Dr. Vu Tri Thanh, Director of Thu Duc General Hospital, said that after many years of construction and development, the unit has always made constant efforts to improve professional quality, innovate service style, and take patients as the center.

At the same time, the Hospital always identifies social responsibility as part of its mission. Therefore, social security programs, care for poor patients, and support for families with preferential policies have been maintained by the Hospital for many years.

With close coordination with Tam Binh ward authorities, Thu Duc Social Security Center and the support of philanthropists, the Hospital's social security activities are increasingly expanded and more practical, contributing to sharing the medical burden and encouraging the spirit of those in difficult circumstances.

Based on the decision of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to change the name of "Thu Duc City Hospital" to "Thu Duc General Hospital" under the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health, from August 23, the Hospital officially launched its new brand identity.

The logo change is part of the roadmap to synchronize the identity system after the name change. The new logo is not simply a change in image but also represents the strategic direction: Modernizing services, improving professional capacity and strengthening engagement with the community.

“The new logo is a testament to our determination to innovate, not only in terms of image but also in terms of quality and responsibility to the people. We will continue to strive to be worthy of the community’s trust,” emphasized Dr. Vu Tri Thanh, Director of Thu Duc General Hospital.

During the introduction of the new identity, Thu Duc General Hospital organized medical examinations, provided free medicine and gifts to 300 elderly people and disadvantaged households in Tam Binh Ward. The program will continue to be implemented for 600 elderly people and disadvantaged households in Hiep Binh Ward and Thu Duc Ward later, with a total cost of 270 million VND.

In addition, the Hospital also has other activities such as "Happy Lunch", free haircuts for patients...
