Prime Minister asks EVN to ensure enough electricity for double-digit growth

(Dan Tri) - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh requested EVN to accelerate and make breakthroughs in developing power sources and grids, building a competitive electricity market, and meeting enough electricity demand for national development.

At the 4th Congress of the Party Committee of Vietnam Electricity Group for the 2025-2030 term on the morning of August 10, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh highly appreciated the achievements of the Party Committee of the Group and the entire Group during the past term.

However, the Government leader also pointed out the limitations that the electricity industry needs to overcome such as: Not yet building a competitive electricity market; not really speeding up, boldly, accelerating, and breaking through in developing electricity sources and electricity loads; electricity prices need to ensure factors of competition, development, harmony, and rationality between businesses and people, price adjustments must follow a roadmap, not allowing shocks to occur.

In the coming time, the Prime Minister requested the electricity industry in general and EVN in particular to focus on meeting the electricity demand for the country's development, with double-digit growth. Specifically, to meet enough electricity for production, business, consumption, and daily life of people and businesses.

Along with that, he requested EVN to grow to become the third largest electricity group in the region and strive to do better; overcome all the limitations and weaknesses that have been pointed out...

The head of the Government requested the group to look far and wide, think deeply, and do big things because the investment in the electricity industry is very large and takes a long time; accelerate the development of power sources and transmission grids, including the development of clean electricity and nuclear power; build a competitive electricity market...

Pointing out five key points of the electricity sector: power source, power load, distribution, use, and electricity price, the Prime Minister requested EVN to do a good job in planning electricity development; have solutions and mechanisms to mobilize resources, especially public-private partnership in developing the electricity industry...

The Prime Minister noted the need to ensure a proactive power system, balance power sources and promote green energy conversion; plan sources and loads, use and distribute to optimize efficiency; develop a competitive electricity market, maximize direct electricity trading, and promote self-produced and self-consumed electricity. He also requested the implementation of the construction of a 500 kV power transmission line from Laos to Vietnam; participate in the construction of the ASEAN power grid...

The Government leader also directed the EVN Party Committee to do well in Party building, improve the comprehensive leadership capacity and fighting strength of the entire Party Committee; care for the lives of cadres, party members, and workers and fulfill their responsibilities to society...

Speaking at the congress, Mr. Dang Hoang An, Chairman of the Board of Directors of EVN, said that in the 2020-2025 term, the group will face many difficulties and challenges. In particular, the Covid-19 pandemic has seriously affected the group's ability to ensure electricity supply and financial situation.

Besides, EVN leaders admitted that internal weaknesses in management and operation, and inadequate internal capacity also significantly affected the group's operations.

However, after many efforts and with the attention and support of all levels and sectors, he said that EVN has overcome the extremely difficult period in the first half of the term, electricity supply is guaranteed, construction investment volume has increased dramatically, many key projects have been completed, especially the 500kV line 3 from Quang Trach to Pho Noi, the financial situation has gradually improved...
