Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh meets with a number of leaders at the WEF Conference

On January 21, in Davos, Switzerland, on the occasion of attending the 55th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF), Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met and interacted with a number of Heads of State and Leaders around the world.

* At a meeting with Panamanian President Jose Raul Mulino Quintero, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that Vietnam attaches importance to the role and position of Panama in the Central and Latin American regions, always remembers and appreciates the support that the Panamanian people have given to Vietnam in the past cause of national liberation and the current cause of national construction; affirmed that the closeness between the people of the two countries will be a favorable condition for the two countries to strengthen relations, especially in politics -diplomacy, economy-trade.

On this occasion, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh respectfully conveyed the greetings of General Secretary To Lam, President Luong Cuong, and National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man to President Jose Raul Mulino Quintero.

The President of Panama affirmed that Vietnam plays an important role for Panama, expressed his admiration for Vietnam’s efforts to develop as it is today after fighting to regain peace and national independence; shared good memories of his previous visit to Vietnam; emphasized that in an increasingly competitive world, the two countries need to strengthen cooperation.

The President of Panama affirmed that the two countries have many areas where they can strengthen cooperation and complement each other, such as trade and service cooperation; and thanked Vietnamese businesses for their support and choice to do business with Panama for many years. President Quintero said that the scale of trade, the role of Vietnam in Asia, and the diligence and hard work of the Vietnamese people are added values ​​for the cooperative relationship between the two countries.

To make the relationship between the two countries increasingly effective and substantive, the two leaders agreed that both sides need to increase the exchange of delegations, especially high-level delegations; enhance trade and investment cooperation; and expand cooperation to new areas such as infrastructure, electric cars, pharmaceuticals, tourism development, and people-to-people exchange.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that based on its experience in agriculture and rice production, Vietnam is ready to share its experience and support Panama in food production, especially rice cultivation. Vietnam is also ready to facilitate Panamanian enterprises to do business and invest in Vietnam and access all 60 FTA partner markets that Vietnam has signed and is implementing.

On this occasion, the Prime Minister respectfully conveyed the invitation from the General Secretary and President to President Quintero to visit Vietnam soon. President Quintero happily accepted the invitation.

* At a brief meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, the two leaders affirmed their appreciation of the traditional friendship and cooperation, the Vietnam-Ukraine Comprehensive Partnership and Cooperation, and their desire to maintain and promote bilateral cooperation, including the exchange of delegations at all levels; continue to seek effective and appropriate measures to maintain growth momentum and soon restore trade exchanges between the two countries, and resume the activities of the Intergovernmental Committee on Economic and Trade Cooperation.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized Vietnam's balanced, objective and consistent stance on the Russia-Ukraine conflict, which is that all disputes need to be resolved by peaceful means, in accordance with the fundamental principles of international law and the United Nations Charter, including respect for the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of countries, not using force or threatening to use force, taking into account the legitimate interests of the parties involved; supporting the mediation efforts of the international community to seek a lasting peaceful solution to the conflict with the participation of all parties involved, in accordance with international law and the United Nations Charter; and being ready to join the efforts of the international community to promote dialogue and seek peaceful solutions to soon end the current conflict.

On this occasion, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh asked the Ukrainian Government to continue supporting to ensure the safety of life and property, and create favorable conditions for Vietnamese citizens currently living and working in this country.

* At a meeting with Lithuanian Prime Minister Gintautas Paluckas, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that Vietnam attaches importance to strengthening friendly relations with traditional friends, including Lithuania, and wishes to bring the bilateral relationship to a new height. The Prime Minister affirmed his support for Lithuania's role in the region and the world.

To further promote the friendly relations and mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries, the two leaders agreed that the two sides will continue to increase the exchange of high-level delegations through all channels; and coordinate to effectively implement existing cooperation mechanisms between the two Foreign Ministries.

The Lithuanian Prime Minister affirmed that Lithuania values ​​the increasingly strengthened cooperation between the two countries; believes that the two sides will agree on mutually beneficial measures for the bilateral relationship. Prime Minister Gintautas Paluckas wishes to strengthen economic, trade and energy cooperation and expand cooperation to potential areas, including renewable energy and liquefied natural gas (LNG). The Lithuanian Prime Minister affirmed his readiness to share and accompany Vietnam in the process of energy transition and energy infrastructure construction.

On this occasion, the Prime Minister respectfully invited the Prime Minister of Lithuania to visit Vietnam soon. The Prime Minister of Lithuania happily accepted the invitation.

* At the meeting with Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Daren Tang, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh highly appreciated WIPO's issuance of Global Innovation Index (GII) 2024. The Prime Minister said that Vietnam will invest heavily in innovation, science and technology, digital transformation and hopes that WIPO will accompany and support Vietnam to continue to be upgraded in the Global Innovation Index Report.

On this occasion, the Prime Minister thanked WIPO and Director General Daren Tang for their support to Vietnam, especially in the development and successful implementation of the Local Innovation Index.

The Prime Minister shared that Vietnam has just issued Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW of the Politburo on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation, identifying science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation as the top important breakthrough, the main driving force to rapidly develop modern productive forces, perfect production relations and innovate national governance methods, develop the socio-economy, prevent the risk of falling behind, and bring the country to breakthrough development and prosperity in the new era.

WIPO Director General thanked Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh for his important and inspiring speech at the Global Innovation Index 2024 Launch Ceremony. Congratulating Vietnam on being among the top 50 countries with the highest innovation index, Director General Daren Tang expressed his admiration and congratulations on the achievements in innovation and economic development that Vietnam has achieved thanks to the leadership and strategic vision of Vietnamese leaders. Director General Daren Tang congratulated Vietnam on the local innovation index that WIPO has cooperated with to build.

On this occasion, the Prime Minister invited the Director General of WIPO to visit Vietnam to further promote cooperation between the two sides and Mr. Daren Tang was pleased to accept the invitation to visit Vietnam in 2025 to learn more about cooperation opportunities and support Vietnam.
