According to press reports, rice prices in the Mekong Delta are currently falling sharply, while traders and businesses are purchasing sparingly, leading to anxiety among farmers. This situation became even more worrying when the Philippines - Vietnam's largest rice consumer market - suddenly suspended imports for 60 days starting September 1, causing export activities to stagnate. Many export businesses are worried about the risk of falling prices and unstable output, so they limit purchases and do not dare to stockpile large quantities.
In response to the above developments, the Prime Minister has assigned the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment to preside over and coordinate with the State Bank and businesses to research appropriate solutions to maintain sustainable production. In particular, relevant units are required to organize temporary purchase and storage of rice, expand consumption markets to stabilize prices and provide timely support to farmers.
