On June 15, Ho Chi Minh City Open University celebrated its 35th anniversary - important milestone in the journey of building and developing the school.

Reviewing the journey of construction and development of Ho Chi Minh City Open University over the past 35 years, Professor, Dr. Nguyen Minh Ha, Principal of the school, shared from the early days of establishment with only 2 training departments and 13 managers and staff. Up to now, the school has had more than 40,000 students from 13 departments and 3 training centers, over 850 staff - employees working, of which over 40% have doctoral degrees or higher.
The scale and quality of training are increasingly expanding. Currently, the University is training 8 doctoral programs, 12 master's programs, 51 university programs, including 17 high-quality training programs, 22 distance training programs, 18 online training programs in all three fields of economics , engineering and social sciences. The network of satellite locations for distance training and work-study in more than 40 provinces and cities, covering from Binh Dinh to Ca Mau Cape and constantly improving facilities, new technical technology for teaching, learning and management, gradually standardizing, modernizing, meeting the needs of learning and human resource training requirements in the new period.

Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Van Phuc, Deputy Minister of Education and Training, spoke at the 35th anniversary of Ho Chi Minh City Open University.
Speaking at the ceremony, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Van Phuc, Deputy Minister of Education and Training (former Principal of the school) said that with the rapid development and learning needs of society, 35 years ago, the school was established with the function of distance learning, on-site training, training at satellite locations... to meet the diverse learning needs of society, contributing to strengthening the team of scientific and technical staff for the country.
Ho Chi Minh City Open University is also one of 23 universities that the Prime Minister has allowed to implement a pilot project to innovate the operating mechanism in the period 2015-2017. The experiences and achievements in the pilot implementation serve as the basis for official institutionalization to be included in the revised Law on Higher Education 2018 - paving the way for universities nationwide to implement autonomy.
Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Phuc also said that taking advantage of the development of information technology, Ho Chi Minh City Open University has built a project to develop a modern online university system. When the COVID-19 pandemic occurred, all schools in the country had to close (an unprecedented event), with the experience of online learning and distance learning of Ho Chi Minh City Open University, the Ministry of Education and Training has learned to guide schools nationwide to teach online to successfully overcome the pandemic - Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Phuc assessed this as a great success of great significance.
The Deputy Minister of Education and Training also highly appreciated the scientific research activities, training program accreditation, rankings, international integration... of Ho Chi Minh City Open University.
