Vietnam has 4 moreuniversities listed in QS rankings
On June 19, Quacquarelli Symonds (QS, UK) announced the results of the world university rankings in 2026 (QS World 2026), including the participation of 10 Vietnamese higher education institutions.
10 Vietnamese universities entered the QS World Rankings 2026, of which 4 schools jumped 13-100 places compared to last year.
Compared to last year, Vietnam added 4 more higher education institutions to this ranking: Van Lang University, Can Tho University, Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Da Nang University (in the 1,001+ group).
Along with that, there are 4 educational institutions that increased their rankings: Duy Tan University, Ton Duc Thang University, Hanoi National University and Ho Chi Minh City National University.
Notably, two national universities made a leap forward: Hanoi National University was ranked in the 761-770 group, up 90 places.
Ho Chi Minh City National University increased 100 places, to group 801-850.
Over the past three years, these two establishments have stagnated, belonging to group 801-1,000.
Meanwhile, Hue University dropped in rank compared to last year, down to group 1,401+.
This year QS surveyed more than 1,500 higher education institutions in more than 100 countries and territories.
The QS World Rankings 2026 continue to use a research methodology consisting of 9 criteria and there is no change in weight compared to the previous ranking.
Specifically: academic reputation 30%, number of citations/scientific staff 20%, reputation with employers 15%, ratio of scientific staff/students 10%, ratio of international scientific staff 5%, ratio of international students 5%, international research network 5%, employment rate of graduates 5%, sustainable development 5%.
2 national universities drop out of USNews college rankings
USNews ( US News & World Report magazine of the US) has just announced the best global university rankings - Best Global Universities Rankings in 2025-2026.
Among 2,250 higher education institutions from 105 countries and territories ranked (an increase of 1 country compared to the previous ranking), Vietnam has 8 schools ranked in this table (a decrease of 1 school compared to last year).
This is the 11th ranking report of USNews & World Report. The rankings of higher education institutions include global, continental and national rankings.
Compared to the previous ranking (US News & World Reports 2024-2025), the rankings of Vietnamese higher education institutions this time have many unexpected fluctuations, most notably the fact that both Hanoi National University (ranked 844th last year) and Ho Chi Minh City National University (ranked 865) are absent (for unknown reasons) from this year's rankings.
Danang University is listed in this ranking for the first time.
In terms of rankings, Duy Tan University rose to the top of Vietnam from second place (296th to 288th, among the best global universities - tied); 64th place among the best universities in Asia (tied).
Meanwhile, other Vietnamese universities have seen their global and Asian rankings drop compared to last year's rankings.
In addition, Vietnam has 8 other higher education institutions "identified" in the 11th USNews ranking report but are not yet eligible for ranking (must have at least 1,250 articles on WoS in the 5 years 2019-2023).
The US News & World Report rankings are based on 13 criteria focusing on research reputation (based on survey results), research productivity and quality (through analysis of publication and citation data by Clarivate).
Ranking criteria of US News rankings
US News & World Report notes that the Best Global Universities rankings are intended to help students learn about and compare universities around the world and should be a factor to consider, not the sole deciding factor, in enrolling.
Rankings assess academic research and reputation, but individual considerations, including location, school culture, strengths of specific programs and tuition costs, are also important considerations.
