New information on the case of 7 immigrants believed to be Vietnamese in the UK

Regarding the information that British police discovered and rescued 7 immigrants in a truck at East Sussex port (Newhaven, UK) on February 16, the Vietnamese Embassy in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland said that the incident is under investigation and verification. These people are currently receiving medical treatment.

Implementing the direction of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs , the Vietnamese Embassy in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland has been in close contact with local authorities to request coordination and closely monitor the case, as well as being ready to take necessary citizen protection measures to ensure the legitimate rights and interests of citizens in case they are identified as Vietnamese citizens.

Previously, according to British press, on February 16, 2024, authorities discovered 7 immigrants believed to be Vietnamese citizens in a truck at Newhaven ferry terminal.

Verify immigrant information

Ferry operator DFDS (which operates routes between Newhaven and Dieppe in Normandy, northern France) confirmed the migrants had been found and said they had been given immediate medical attention.

On February 19, suspect Anas Al Mustafa (42 years old from Swansea) appeared at Brighton Magistrates' Court on charges of facilitating illegal entry into the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland. The suspect was remanded in custody and is expected to appear at Lewes Crown Court on March 18.
