This is the result of poet Nguyen Phan Que Mai's silent work of translating poetry and introducing Vietnamese poetry to the world for many years.
With her Vietnamese-English bilingual poetry collection titled The Secret of the Lotus (BOA Editions, translated with Bruce Weigl), Nguyen Phan Que Mai is the first Southeast Asian poet to have her book published in the BOA Editions series, USA. In 2014, she received an excellent degree from the MA in Writing program, Lancaster University (UK), and is currently studying for a doctorate. Nguyen Phan Que Mai is the translator of 6 poetry collections published in Vietnamese-English.
Poet - Dr. B.Kincer, Director of the Melodically Challenged program (broadcast weekly on WRAS Radio at the University of Georgia, USA), said: “We chose to produce the Nguyen Phan Que Mai poetry program first because of the quality of the poems and because Mai's poetry evokes the beauty of the country and people of Vietnam. At the same time, Mai wrote about a turbulent period in the history of both Vietnam and the US. There is no better way to understand a culture than through the poetry of that country.”
