These can be seen as emerging tourist streams reflecting the popular trend of "domestic tourism" among international visitors.

Statistics from Outbox Consulting (a tourism data provider) show that Southeast Asia has 4 markets in the top 15 international tourist markets for Vietnam in the 2016-2023 period, including Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, and the Philippines.

In addition, after 8 years, the markets of Taiwan, Australia, and especially India have all “moved up” on this ranking. Thus, adding 3 key tourist markets in the Northeast Asia region, namely Korea, China and Japan, 10/15 of our country’s leading international tourist markets are located in Asia or neighboring regions.

Mr. Nguyen Son Thuy - Vice President of Quang Nam Tourism Association, Director of Duy Nhat Dong Duong Tourism Company Limited said that there is a strong growth wave of tourists in Southeast Asia, especially traveling to nearby countries. This trend will continue to grow strongly and will be maintained at least until 2030.

In addition to some markets that have developed well in the Quang Nam - Da Nang area for many years such as Thailand or Malaysia, travel agencies are also recording strong growth from the Philippines market, and soon Indonesia.

According to the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in the first half of 2024, Quang Nam also recorded strong growth in the Taiwanese market (ranked 2nd), Australia (ranked 4th) as well as some other nearby markets.

The increased frequency of flights between Da Nang and nearby markets or the opening of new routes, especially within Southeast Asia, has helped Quang Nam tourism attract more neighboring international tourist markets.

The tourism industry of Quang Nam - Da Nang - Thua Thien Hue has also identified a number of key nearby markets with strong growth trends to coordinate in promoting the joint tourism program "Wonderful Heritage Land" of the three localities in Taiwan (June 2024) or most recently in Australia (September 2024).

Mr. Dang Manh Phuoc - CEO of Outbox Consulting Company informed that the extremely important change of most tourism markets in the world since the COVID-19 pandemic is that they have become more fond of short-distance trips.

“For example, our data shows that up to 74% of Asian tourists choose a country within Asia for their travel. This leads to the fact that the key international tourist markets of many countries in the Southeast Asian region are concentrated in Asia, not just Vietnam.

Tourism workers in the Central region need to follow this trend to identify new potential target markets for their localities, destinations, and units to adapt to changes in the structure of the tourist market," said Mr. Phuoc.
