"Vietnam's success began at Ba Dinh Square, when the country chose the right path. Today, no one can deny the great achievements in economics, culture, diplomacy , science, education, health and almost all areas of life that Vietnam has achieved in the 80 years since independence and especially after the country's reunification."
This was shared by Mr. Victor Petrov - Secretary General of the Russian Peace Foundation, former member of the Asian-African Solidarity Committee and the Soviet Committee for Supporting Vietnam under the Communist Party of the Soviet Union - in a conversation with VNA reporters in Moscow on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Vietnam's National Day (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025).
Mr. Petrov has been associated with Vietnam for more than 40 years, from the most difficult years of the war for national independence to when the country entered a period of peace, stability and strong development as it is today.
Mr. Petrov expressed his deep respect for President Ho Chi Minh , whom he called a genius leader and a great friend of the Soviet people.
According to him, it was in the Soviet Union that President Ho Chi Minh decided to choose the path of national liberation for the Vietnamese revolution. He said that President Ho Chi Minh chose the right time to launch the revolution and declare independence for Vietnam on September 2, 1945 at Ba Dinh Square.
The Declaration of Independence - the "birth" of the first people's democratic state in Southeast Asia - which put the name of Vietnam back on the world political map was drafted by President Ho Chi Minh at the house of nationalist capitalist Trinh Van Bo (48 Hang Ngang, Hanoi) on the night of August 28, 1945. As a member of the Soviet Committee for Vietnam, Mr. Petrov had the opportunity to work with and meet many leaders of the Communist Party of Vietnam. He shared that he had welcomed Ms. Nguyen Thi Binh and female general Nguyen Thi Dinh to his private home many times.
According to him, the pure hearts of the revolutionary leaders, their unwavering spirit in the face of any difficulty, along with the spirit of national solidarity are the answers to the question of why Vietnam has never lost a war.
It is noteworthy that those strengths continue to be promoted by the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Vietnamese people in peacetime to achieve the proud achievements today.
Mr. Petrov said that he recently read that Ms. Nguyen Thi Binh was awarded the title of Hero of Labor by General Secretary To Lam on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of National Day. He sent her congratulations and expressed his admiration for a talented and intelligent Vietnamese woman.
Referring to the factors that helped Vietnam achieve success, Mr. Petrov said that success begins with choosing the right path. Today, no one can deny the great achievements that Vietnam has made in all fields since gaining independence, especially after the country was reunified.

He highly appreciated the role of people's diplomacy in Vietnam's development process. According to him, Vietnam has actively and effectively used the power of people's diplomacy as one of the pillars to ensure a peaceful, friendly and cooperative environment, serving economic and trade development, propagating policies and promoting the country's image to the world.
He mentioned the Vietnam Cultural Festival held at Manhezh Square in central Moscow, attracting millions of participants, expressing their love and admiration for Vietnam.
In addition, the Secretary General of the Russian Peace Foundation also mentioned Vietnam sending a People's Army delegation to attend the Victory Day parade on May 9 at Red Square and said that these were beautiful images, contributing to raising the country's position.
During the conversation, Mr. Petrov quoted Nikolai Kolesnik, Chairman of the Russian Veterans Association who worked in Vietnam, as saying that the training content that Soviet experts expected to take 6 months to convey to the Vietnamese missile force, the Vietnamese side only needed 3 months to fully master.
That shows that, in peacetime, the Vietnamese people still maintain their determination and wartime spirit, along with their tenacious will and strong belief in their work and noble goals. That is also one of the reasons that, according to him, has helped Vietnam achieve many successes in the current period.
Sharing about Vietnam's development prospects in the new era, Mr. Petrov recalled General Secretary To Lam's visit to the Russian Federation last May.

During the visit, Mr. Petrov was invited to attend a meeting between the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam and international dignitaries, intellectuals and friends. Here, he heard directly about the situation in Vietnam, development orientation and cooperation prospects.
He clearly felt that Vietnam was entering a new stage of economic development, with a long-term plan, focusing on investment in foreign policy and friendship, not just simple friendship but moving towards real economic cooperation. He said that this was creating great trust.
Mr. Petrov also acknowledged the confidence of the young generation of Vietnam, the innovation in management thinking and deep international integration. According to him, Vietnam has great potential with a young population, a creative spirit and strong political stability.
Vietnam's position is increasingly enhanced, becoming an important partner and trusted friend of many countries.
On that basis, he expressed his belief that Vietnam will go further in the new era and become one of the typical success stories of the 21st century./.
