The iPhone 17 series is rumored to feature a new design, upgraded cameras, and a slight price increase.

Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 17 at an event taking place from midnight on September 10 (Vietnam time). Although no details have been shared, many rumors say that the new smartphone line will have major upgrades revolving around design, camera cluster and other factors.

In addition to the standard models, all eyes are on the super-thin iPhone 17 Air, which is likely to replace the Plus line. In addition, at least one iPhone 17 model will be more expensive.

After the not-so-innovative iPhone 15 or iPhone 16 lines, the iPhone 17 could become the most powerful upgrade generation in recent years. Below are the expected improvements of the iPhone 17 based on rumors.

Price may increase

The price of the iPhone 17 remains a matter of debate. Writing on Truth Social in May, US President Donald Trump threatened to impose a 25% tax on all iPhones manufactured outside the US.

On August 13, rumor expert Instant Digital said that the iPhone 17 in the US will be $50 more expensive than its predecessor. The device is expected to start at $1,050 , but the storage capacity will double to 128 GB. At the end of August, analyst Jeff Pu also stated that the iPhone 17 will increase in price due to the impact of tariffs imposed by the US on China and India.

In a July post, Jefferies analyst Edison Lee said Apple was planning to raise prices by $50 across all iPhone 17 models. However, on September 2, research from JPMorgan bank claimed that only the iPhone 17 Pro would see a price increase. Essentially, Apple will eliminate the 128GB version, making 256GB the lowest option.

Improved camera

The camera is always an expected improvement in each generation of iPhone. In April, analyst Jeff Pu said that all 4 iPhone 17 models will be equipped with a 24 MP selfie camera, double the previous one (12 MP).

Apple is also said to be developing a camera app with many professional modes, although it is unclear whether this feature is exclusive to the iPhone 17 Pro or all models.

On YouTube channel FrontPageTech , leaker Jon Prosser said that iPhone 17 will support a new video recording mode, allowing front and rear cameras to record at the same time, suitable for content creators or vloggers.

In a series of photos shared by leaker Majin Bu in February, the iPhone 17 Pro's rear camera will be larger, with a rectangular convex cluster similar to the Google Pixel. Meanwhile, the standard iPhone 17 still retains the vertical camera cluster, while the iPhone 17 Air only has one lens.

Refine the design

The design of the iPhone 17 is no longer new as there are many rumors. The highlight may come from the iPhone 17 Air, when leaker Ice Universe said the product is only 5.5 mm thin at its thinnest point.

In addition, Kuo predicts that the iPhone 17 Air will only be equipped with a single rear camera with a resolution of 48 MP, located in a horizontal pill-shaped convex cluster. The device is predicted to have a 6.6-inch OLED screen with ProMotion, Dynamic Island notch and Face ID.

After the failed integration on the iPhone 16 Pro, Majin Bu predicts that Apple is still developing an iPhone prototype with a pressure-sensitive button that works similarly to Camera Control. However, it is unclear whether the company will equip this system on the iPhone 17.

For the remaining models, analyst Jeff Pu said the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, and 17 Pro use aluminum frames with a more complex structure. For comparison, the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus use a normal aluminum frame, while the iPhone 16 Pro duo is equipped with a titanium frame.

Except for the iPhone 17 Air, analyst Jeff Pu said the remaining iPhone 17 models will keep the same screen size. If the information is correct, the iPhone 17 will have a 6.1-inch screen, the iPhone 17 Pro will be 6.3 inches, while the iPhone 17 Pro Max will be 6.9 inches.

Another rumor revealed by The Elec (Korea) in early 2024 said that the standard iPhone 17 will use LTPO technology for the first time, allowing always-on mode and ProMotion to be activated, with a 120 Hz refresh rate similar to the Pro line.

Apple could also move the Apple logo on the back to a lower position to balance out the camera cluster. Majin Bu’s renders show the Apple logo centered in a square glass frame. This design allows for wireless charging and MagSafe to remain, although accessory makers will have to adjust their products to accommodate the new placement.

Many new colors

To increase diversity, Apple often changes color options with each generation of iPhone. This may continue to happen on the iPhone 17, when leaker Majin Bu said that Apple is testing blue for the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max. However, according to the latest information, the above color may transfer to other devices.

Specifically, a source from Macworld in early July said that the blue color is likely to appear on the iPhone 17 Air with a lighter tone. Even Majin Bu also corrected that the blue color will appear on the iPhone 17 Air instead of the iPhone 17 Pro.

As for other colors, Macworld says the iPhone 17 will retain the black and white colors from the iPhone 16, alongside colors like gray, light blue, green, and purple.

The site also predicts that the iPhone 17 Air will come in black and white, alongside light blue and yellow. The blue may be lighter than the blue on the standard iPhone 17, while the yellow is similar to desert titanium but brighter.

As for the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max, the duo is rumored to come in black, white, gray (like natural titanium), dark navy, and orange, inspired by the Apple Watch's Action button.

Hardware and battery life

According to Mark Gurman, the entire iPhone 17 series will be equipped with the A19 processor chip, with the iPhone 17 Pro using the higher-end A19 Pro version. All 4 devices are likely to be equipped with 12 GB of RAM, a sharp increase compared to the 8 GB on the iPhone 16 Pro.

iPhone 17 Air is likely to use Apple's self-developed C1 modem, and eliminate the SIM tray globally.

According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, at least one iPhone 17 model will be equipped with Apple's own Wi-Fi 7 chip. Currently, the iPhone 16 uses a Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chip provided by Broadcom, but the specifications are limited. Meanwhile, Apple's chip will be equipped with the latest specifications.

In addition, the iPhone 17 Pro may be equipped with a vapor chamber cooling system, which helps dissipate heat better when using heavy tasks. With the iPhone 17 Air, Apple is likely to reduce the battery capacity to optimize thinness. However, Mark Gurman emphasized that the product's battery life will be "on par with current iPhone models", possibly the iPhone 16e.

According to a Bloomberg writer, software and hardware optimizations, especially from the C1 modem, could extend the battery life of the iPhone 17 Air.
