Strengthening waste collection, transportation and treatment

Faced with the situation of garbage accumulation in some localities and arising at beaches, units urgently mobilized workers and mechanical vehicles to increase garbage collection and transportation to Khanh Son Solid Waste Treatment Complex. At the same time, research and propose solutions to increase garbage collection and transportation in the context of increasing household garbage following socio-economic development.

On June 18, Hanoi Urban Environment Company Limited - Central Branch (Urenco 15) mobilized workers and more than 10 vehicles to collect garbage and clean up garbage collection points in Lien Chieu district to handle the backlog of household waste there. Along with that, garbage collection on roads and residential areas was increased with 34 garbage compactor trucks collecting and transporting 213.44 tons of household waste to Khanh Son Solid Waste Treatment Complex, 43.44 tons higher than the average daily volume (170 tons/day). Previously, from June 1 to June 15, Urenco 15 collected and transported more than 2,760 tons of garbage to Khanh Son Solid Waste Treatment Complex, an average of more than 184 tons/day, 14 tons/day higher than the previous normal day.

Director of Urenco 15 Ngo Le Quang said that the unit is investigating the cause of the recent increase in the amount of waste generated. On June 18, due to the focus on collecting backlog waste and cleaning up large waste collection points in Lien Chieu district, the amount of waste collected and transported to Khanh Son Solid Waste Treatment Complex increased by more than 25.5% compared to the average daily rate. In the immediate future, from June 19, the unit has increased the arrangement of 1 more garbage compactor and 1 more service vehicle to proactively collect and transport waste generated in the district.

The situation of daily household waste is locally increasing at some garbage collection points in other localities, with units mobilizing workers and mechanical vehicles to collect it. For example, on June 17, in response to the situation of people and restaurants and businesses assembling garbage late at night on Chinh Huu Street (Son Tra District), Da Nang Urban Environment Joint Stock Company mobilized small garbage compactors to collect garbage contained in bins and quickly transport it to the Son Tra area garbage transfer station. The company mobilized more workers and large-capacity mechanical vehicles with chutes to collect garbage outside the bins and transport it directly to the Khanh Son Solid Waste Treatment Complex. Notably, the Son Tra area garbage transfer station was put into operation in January 2023 with a rated garbage compacting capacity of 200 tons/day, but recently, the station has been frequently overloaded. In the first half of June 2025 alone, there were about 10 days when the amount of garbage transported to the station was more than 200 tons/day, including some days when the station operated at a capacity exceeding 20%, and some days when it received up to 250 tons of garbage (overloaded by 25%). In that situation, Da Nang Urban Environment Joint Stock Company mobilized additional large-capacity vehicles to collect garbage in Son Tra district and transport it directly to Khanh Son Solid Waste Treatment Complex or coordinated many small garbage compactors to the garbage transfer station on Le Thanh Nghi Street.

Also during the above period, the waste transfer station on Le Thanh Nghi Street also received about 7 days of waste exceeding the rated waste compression capacity of 485 tons/day. In addition, in the first half of June 2025, the amount of waste collected by the company's motor vehicles in Hai Chau district and transported directly to Khanh Son Solid Waste Treatment Complex (not to the waste transfer station on Le Thanh Nghi Street) averaged about 26.5 tons/day. Mr. Dang Que Hung, representative of the joint venture of SEEN Engineering Joint Stock Company and Saigon Transport Mechanical Corporation (SAMCO), said that after a period of operation, the two waste transfer stations in Son Tra area and Le Thanh Nghi Street were often overloaded due to the increase in the amount of household waste generated following socio -economic development. Currently, the two companies are actively speeding up the construction and installation of equipment at the Cam Le waste transfer station project to reduce the load on the waste transfer station on Le Thanh Nghi Street and serve the mechanization of household waste collection in the surrounding area. To meet the requirements for waste collection and transportation, the city needs to soon invest in installing 1 more waste compactor, 2 hooklift trucks and some waste containers to increase the capacity of the Son Tra waste transfer station. In addition, it is necessary to soon invest in a waste transfer station on Le Duc Trung Street and Ngu Hanh Son area to meet the requirements for collecting and transporting the increasing volume of waste according to socio-economic development.
