Son Heung-min debuts for new club.

"I am truly proud to join LAFC, a club with great ambitions in one of the most iconic sports cities in the world. Los Angeles has a rich history with countless champions and I am here to write the next chapter," Son Heung-min said on the day of his debut.

"I am very excited about the new challenge in Major League Soccer. I came to Los Angeles to win titles, to give my all for the club, the city and the fans. I can't wait to get on the field," the South Korean captain added.

According to ESPN , LAFC paid a fee of about $26 million to recruit Son. This figure broke the record of $22 million that Atlanta United spent to sign striker Emmanuel Latte Lath last winter.

In addition to the record fee, LAFC has given Son the second-highest salary in MLS, at around $8.7 million per year. Although this figure is still lower than the income Son receives at Tottenham (over $11 million /year), this is still a very high number within the framework of MLS.

At LAFC, Son will be reunited with former Tottenham teammate Hugo Lloris, who had a dressing room spat in 2020 but will now play together in MLS.
