Candidates compete to guess the Literature exam questions for grade 10 in Hanoi

Having passed two consecutive tough exams of the High School for Social Sciences and Humanities and the Hanoi National University of Education, Do Minh Thu, a student at Phan Dinh Giot Secondary School, is mentally quite stable. "I'm not scared because I'm used to the atmosphere and pace of the exams," Minh Thu said.

Literature is the subject that makes her feel most confident. Minh Thu especially loves analyzing social issues and expressing her opinions through her writing. This is also the subject that she often does well in school tests.

"With the explosion of artificial intelligence AI, I hope the social essay will focus on the ability of young people to master this technology, or how they overcome difficulties and temptations when using AI," Minh Thu predicted about the exam.

Meanwhile, Nguyen Dinh Anh, a student at Hoang Liet Secondary School, predicted that this year's exam will discuss patriotism. "This year, the country has many special anniversaries such as: 50 years of Southern liberation, national reunification, 80 National Day September 2... I guess the exam will discuss patriotism of today's youth," the male student said.

Dinh Anh was taken to the Kim Lien High School exam site early by his father. Although he registered his first choice at Kim Lien High School - which has a "competition" ratio of up to 2.15, in the top 5 most competitive schools in the city, the male student felt quite calm and confident before the important exam.

Fully aware of the fierce competition, Dinh Anh determined that he needed to score at least 26 points in three subjects to have any hope of passing.

Throughout the process of practicing and participating in the exams, Dinh Anh maintained a stable performance, regularly achieving 9 points in Math, 9 points in English and 8.5 points in Literature. "I just hope that when I enter the exam room, I can maintain the same spirit as when I practiced, not panic or lose my composure. If I can do that, I believe I will get good results," Dinh Anh said.

According to statistics from the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, during the exam registration procedure session on the morning of June 6, more than 102,000 candidates were present at the exam site to complete the exam registration procedures, reaching a rate of 99.52%. The entire city had 495 candidates absent, not coming to complete the exam registration procedures. According to the regulations, these candidates will not be allowed to take part in the Math, Literature, and Foreign Language exams.

According to the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, the absent candidates may have decided to study at a vocational school or private school, so they did not come to take the exam. In addition, there were 11 candidates in the area who had health problems right before the exam and needed medical assistance.

This year's 10th grade entrance exam is the first year to apply the new admission regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training, in which the new points are that the test scores of candidates and the standard scores for entering 10th grade of each public high school will be announced on the same day.

In previous years, the benchmark scores were usually announced 2-3 days after the test scores. This was a big challenge for the organization of Hanoi city, because the number of candidates taking the exam was very large, usually accounting for about 1/10 of the total number of candidates nationwide participating in the 10th grade entrance exam every year.

Another notable new point is the adjustment of the admission score calculation method. Instead of multiplying the coefficient by 2 for Math and Literature as in previous years, this year, the admission score will be the total score of 3 subjects (Math, Literature, Foreign Language), each subject is calculated on a 10-point scale and does not have a coefficient. This calculation method aims to ensure fairness between subjects and encourage students to study all subjects equally.

Each candidate has 3 wishes to enter grade 10 of public high school, of which 2 wishes are in the enrollment area suitable for the registration place, the 3rd wish is in any enrollment area.

Hanoi's 10th grade entrance exam begins on the morning of June 7 with the Literature subject. In the afternoon of the same day, candidates will take the Foreign Language exam. On the morning of June 8, candidates will take the Math exam. Candidates taking the specialized exam will take the specialized subject exam on June 9. The whole city has 4,411 exam rooms and 201 exam locations.
This year, Hanoi has about 127,000 junior high school graduates, of whom more than 103,000 registered for the 10th grade public high school entrance exam. According to the Department of Education and Training, at least 64% of students registered for the exam passed the 10th grade public high school entrance exam, equivalent to more than 81,000 students.
It is expected that around July 4-6, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training will simultaneously announce the exam scores and grade 10 benchmark scores. Successful candidates will confirm their enrollment from July 10-12.
