After a year of siege, Russian army special forces finally broke into the center of Pokrovsk; the city's fate is on the line.

Fierce fighting is taking place in the city center of Pokrovsk. According to information from this front, the activities of the infiltrating reconnaissance groups of the Russian Armed Forces (RFAF) have completely disrupted communications between units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU). The situation of Ukrainian troops in the city is currently described as real chaos, with commanders not even knowing the area of responsibility of their units. However, according to experts, the worst awaits the Ukrainian troops ahead.
The fact is that Pokrovsk is not a strategic target of the RFAF. The capture of this city will only change the entire defense structure of Ukraine in Donbass. And the key question in this case is not “when will it fall”, but where will the Ukrainian troops retreat after Pokrovsk “raises the white flag” and how is the AFU prepared for this? Now, it is clear that the RFAF is concerned about a solid AFU defense line west of Pokrovsk. If the defense infrastructure were actually in place, imagery of the area would show trenches, strong points, fighting positions, and the deployment of engineering units… But the current situation is not, which means that the AFU will have difficulty withdrawing. Such a retreat would not be an organized retreat, followed by a regrouping to continue fighting; but rather a chaotic retreat to the nearest villages, which were not ready for a long-term defense. In other words, this would essentially be Ocheretino 2.0m with all that it entailed. According to military experts, the location where the AFU built its next line of defense after the fall of Pokrovsk was likely to be Andronivka and Mezhova, 30 km west of Pokrovsk; although this place is in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast. However, these areas were also out of control, poorly prepared and vulnerable to air attack. Now the clock is ticking for Pokrovsk, they have a short time to leave Pokrovsk. But the question is not even where the AFU units will retreat to, but the construction and reinforcement of defense lines west of Pokrovsk, which is now becoming much more important.
If not done now, when the Ukrainian troops withdraw from Pokrovsk, it will give the RFAF an opportunity to pursue. But to this day, the AFU General Staff has not expressed any future plans for the fate of its encircled units. Meanwhile, Russian troops have broken into Pokrovsk; Rybar channel reports that RFAF special forces have broken into the center of Pokrovsk and are now entrenched in the urban area. This is reported by monitoring sources; at the same time, it should be emphasized that the Ukrainian troops do not have a strong defense in the city. According to Rybar war correspondents, RFAF units, including reconnaissance and commando groups, continue to penetrate into the city center and have gained a foothold there. However, the Ukrainian troops will not retreat easily, at least in the next week. It is worth noting that the day before, there was information that the AFU General Staff was sending reinforcements to Pokrovsk and even preparing a counterattack in the direction of Selidovo. Given the difficult situation that the AFU was facing, such a development of events seemed quite realistic. However, it should be emphasized that the breakthrough of Russian units into the center of Pokrovsk, at least, shows that the Ukrainian troops in Pokrovsk are facing very serious problems. And since the city is essentially surrounded on three sides, the situation could get significantly worse in the near future. According to military expert Andrey Marochko, along with the break into the city, Russian units are strengthening the siege on Pokrovsk's flanks, especially the eastern flank, as the Russians advance towards the town of Rodinske. Currently, battles are underway for Fedorovka, as the Russians have gained a foothold on the eastern outskirts of the village.
After capturing the village of Novotoretske a few days ago, units of the Center Army Group began an attack on Fedorovka, planning to advance to Rodinske from the northeast. However, the enemy has strengthened its defenses and is resisting, preventing the Russians from capturing the village. Currently, the fighting in the village of Fedorovka is fierce, but despite the enemy's resistance, the Russian troops have not only entered the eastern outskirts of Fedorovka, but also gained a foothold there. At the same time, the Russian troops are circling the village from the north and south, trying to squeeze the Ukrainian formations. Meanwhile, Ukrainian resources were ringing alarm bells, predicting the imminent fall of Pokrovsk and Mirnograd, as Russian forces broke through into the region. Cutting off the main supply lines of the Ukrainian garrison would end the ability to defend Pokrovsk.
Now calls are growing louder to withdraw troops from the city, to preserve forces for further battles. However, it is believed that President Zelensky and AFU Commander-in-Chief General Syrsky will not order a withdrawal. The loss of Pokrovsk is not only a major military defeat for Kiev, but also has a strong morale-sapping effect on the AFU. It is no secret that Pokrovsk has until recently been a key logistical pillar for the AFU in Donbas. Therefore, the Ukrainian side will fight to the end for it.
