According to the announcement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on September 7, at the invitation of Prime Minister of the Republic of Mozambique Adriano Maleiane and Vice President of the Republic of South Africa Paul Mashatile, Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan will pay an official visit to the Republic of Mozambique and the Republic of South Africa from September 10-17.
Vietnam and Mozambique established diplomatic relations on June 25, 1975. Before that, the two countries had relations through the Party channel. Since the establishment of relations, Vietnam and Mozambique have always given each other valuable support and assistance as well as warm feelings from the previous period of national liberation struggle.
Over the years, the traditional political and diplomatic relations and friendship have been well developed, demonstrated through many high-level visits by leaders of the two countries. The two countries have signed many agreements and cooperation agreements in the fields of politics , diplomacy, economics, trade, investment, agriculture, fisheries, science and technology, telecommunications, health, education and training, culture, security and defense, finance, banking, provincial cooperation, etc., creating conditions for ministries and branches to expand cooperation. The two countries have established important cooperation mechanisms such as the Intergovernmental Committee, political consultation at the Deputy Foreign Minister level, etc.
Economic, trade and investment cooperation is a highlight in the relationship between the two countries. Trade turnover in 2022 reached over 177 million USD, an increase of 16% compared to 150 million USD in 2021; we export rice, textile products, machinery and equipment... and import cashew nuts, wood, coal...
Currently, Viettel Military Telecommunications Group is investing in Mozambique in the telecommunications sector - Movitel Company (a joint venture between Viettel and SPI Company of Mozambique), with a total investment capital of over 600 million USD, of which Viettel contributes 70%. Movitel mobile information network of Viettel Military Telecommunications Group in Mozambique is a very effective project in bilateral economic cooperation, helping Mozambique create an information revolution. Movitel mobile network has been in operation since May 2012 and has become the second largest telecommunications network in terms of subscribers and coverage, contributing positively to the socio-economic development of Mozambique.
With South Africa, the two countries established diplomatic relations on December 22, 1993. Before that, the two countries had relations through the Party channel. Vietnam always attaches importance to the traditional friendship with South Africa, identifies South Africa as an important "Partner for Cooperation and Development" of Vietnam in Africa and is determined to promote comprehensive cooperation with South Africa.
During nearly three decades since the official establishment of diplomatic relations, the cooperative relationship between Vietnam and South Africa has continuously developed well, with many achievements in important fields such as politics, diplomacy, defense, security, trade, investment, agriculture, etc.
South Africa is currently Vietnam's largest trading partner in Africa. Two-way trade turnover between Vietnam and South Africa has remained quite stable over the years at about 1.3 billion USD, of which Vietnam dominates exports to South Africa at about 800 million USD, mainly products from FDI enterprises. In the coming time, South Africa is considered a market providing input materials for industrial production in Vietnam.
