On the majestic Ngoc Linh mountain top, where clouds and fog often cover, hidden deep in the heart of Tra Tap commune, Nam Tra My district, old Quang Nam province (now Tra Tap commune, Da Nang city), is a beautiful story about kindness and love.

Building a school on Ngoc Linh mountain

Lang Luong School (Chu Van An Primary School) of Tra Tap is located deep in the Ngoc Linh forest, surrounded by clouds all year round. There, the road to school for Cor and Xe Dang children has never been a walk. It is steep rocky slopes, streams crossing, and small footsteps tirelessly sowing the seeds of dreams on the high mountain tops.

For many years now, at Lang Luong school, part of Chu Van An Primary School, Tra Tap commune, difficulties have been lingering. It is an old school, temporarily built from fragile wooden planks, exposed to wind from all sides, damp and cold when it rains. Amidst the cold mountains and forests, teachers and students cling to each other, clinging to each letter.

Children in Lang Luong area, their parents spend all year long on the fields and the rice fields. Without this school, the first and second graders would have to travel a very long distance, and perhaps many of them would drop out of school. The third, fourth and fifth graders, to reach the main school in Tra Tap commune, have to walk for more than 3 hours, a journey full of dangers and challenges... But those footsteps are imprinted on every rock, every tree, every day to go to school.

Seeing these difficulties, the Friends Club decided to take action... The total construction cost was up to 750 million VND, a considerable amount, and all came from voluntary contributions. There were individuals like Lan Phuong, a former student of Phan Chau Trinh High School in Da Nang, currently living in Hanoi , who supported 500 million VND to help the project have a favorable starting budget. And then there was the joint contribution of philanthropists.

A school in the high mountains costs much more to build than in the lowlands. The difficulty is not only money. The roads are dangerous, steep, and prone to landslides. Construction materials cannot be carried by motor vehicles, but must be carried by human power, by local people, and carried on foot. The local people themselves have become the most effective collaborators. They are willing to give up their days of farming, carrying rice and corn, to join hands in carrying bricks and sand. Their hearts come from a simple wish: for their children to go to school and learn to read.

Mr. Ho Van Tai, who donated land to build the school, shared with emotion: "I just hope that the children around can go to school and get a good education". Amidst the storms of the mountains and forests, human love becomes warmer and stronger than ever. Each brick, each bag of cement carried up the steep slope, is not only a building material, but also the love of the people, the members of the Friends Love Each Other Club.

School filled with love

Now, Lang Luong school has completely transformed. The new school is spacious, solid, standing out among the green of the mountains and forests, like a symbol of life and hope; no more rotten wooden walls, no more wind or rain... The school has solar power, bookshelves, beds for children to sleep in at noon... The current number of students is only 10, but more children from the surrounding area will be brought to this spacious school... so that the children can study in a complete, well-rounded environment...

Teacher Nguyen Viet Thao, who has been attached to this school, could not hide her emotion. For her, the school was built like a "miracle", because more than anyone else she understands the difficulties and obstacles in building it. Now, she can not only teach but also cook lunch for her students in a spacious, fully equipped kitchen. Meals filled with love, give energy to the little feet walking on the path of finding letters. For the children, this school is not only a place to study, but also a second home, where they are loved, protected and cared for.

This change not only brings joy to teachers and students but also spreads to the whole community. Mr. Truong Cong Mot, the school's principal, expressed his deep gratitude to the Friends Club: "Your help has brought a dream school to students in the highlands. We are extremely grateful to these golden hearts."

Mr. Ngo Tan Lac, Vice Chairman of Tra Tap Commune, could not hold back his emotions: "The cooperation of young people has greatly supported children in the highlands in going to school. It has given more motivation to teachers to take the test, helping them to reduce their hardships...".

From the central coastal city of Da Nang , passionate and loving people have brought warmth and knowledge to the cold Ngoc Linh mountain. They have not only built a school with bricks and lime, but also built dreams and bright futures for the children here. The new school, new kitchen, new bedrooms are not only facilities, but also humanity, sharing, and hope.

Mr. Nguyen Binh Nam, Head of the Friends Club, looked at the children playing in the new schoolyard with a bright smile. Mr. Nam shared: "Seeing the children go to school and study in a clean and spacious school is the greatest reward for our efforts. We believe that with a better school, the children here will have the opportunity to study, go further on their future journey and return to contribute to the village"...

Quynh Nhu, a member of the Friends Club, was moved: "Now seeing the children studying in a decent school, I feel that my and my friends' small contributions are very meaningful"...

Mr. Nguyen Binh Nam, Chairman of the Friends Club, said that Lang Luong school is the 19th school that the club has jointly built after 15 years of establishment.

After Lang Luong school, the Friends Club continued to build Rang Chuoi school (belonging to Chu Van An Primary School). Previously, Rang Chuoi school was newly built by a volunteer group, but in November 2024, due to the impact of prolonged heavy rain, this school collapsed, and students had to study at another location. Therefore, this time, the Friends Club decided to survey and start rebuilding at a new location, with a construction cost of more than 1 billion VND.
