In Greenland's legislative elections that ended this week, the opposition Democratic Party won with 30% of the vote. The party supports a gradual path to independence for Greenland through economic development. However, party leader Jens Frederik Nielsen and the Democratic Party have insisted that Greenland is not for sale and have rejected the idea of ​​becoming part of the United States.

"Mr. Trump's statement from the US is inappropriate and shows once again that in situations like these, we must stand together," Mr. Nielsen wrote on social media.

Greenland's government leader Mute Egede also responded immediately to Trump's comments on the same day, declaring that enough was enough and calling on party leaders in the territory to meet to strengthen their opposition.
