First half of 2025: Livestock activities change positively

According to the assessment of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Binh Thuan, in the first 6 months of 2025, the province's livestock situation continued to develop stably. Notably, cattle farming was maintained and expanded.

Currently, the whole province has a herd of about 188,000 cows, an increase of 2.7% over the same period, especially the models of raising fattening cows and high-quality crossbred cows that bring high economic efficiency. Along with that, the high price of live pigs in recent times, which is beneficial for farmers, has created motivation for businesses, farms and households to promote herd restoration and expand production scale. Currently, the whole province has a total herd of 425,000 pigs, an increase of 6.9% over the same period.

At the same time, the trend of raising livestock in the direction of bio-safety and applying technology to poultry management continues to be promoted with a poultry flock of 7.5 million heads, the total output of fresh meat of all kinds in the first 6 months of the year is estimated at 61,100 tons/plan of 115,000 tons (reaching 53.1% of the plan, up 17.9% over the same period).

Contributing to these achievements, according to the provincial agricultural sector, the sector has recently focused on implementing drastic and synchronous solutions to prevent and control diseases in livestock, poultry and aquaculture. At the same time, implementing vaccination against diseases in livestock and poultry, estimated at nearly 12,500 doses. On the other hand, promptly guiding localities to strictly implement disease prevention and control for terrestrial animals according to the direction of the Central and the province.

In particular, focusing on drastic and synchronous implementation of solutions to prevent and control African swine fever, avian influenza, septicemia in cattle and rabies in dogs and cats. On the other hand, the industry coordinated with the People's Committees of localities to implement the first month of general cleaning, disinfection and sterilization of the environment in 2025 in the province. Thanks to that, from the beginning of 2025 until now, there have been no dangerous disease outbreaks in the province. However, since the beginning of the year, there have been 5 cases of rabies in dogs concentrated in Phan Thiet City and some other infectious diseases have occurred in livestock and poultry but at a sporadic level and have not spread into an epidemic.

According to the provincial agricultural sector leaders, quarantine and slaughter control of livestock and poultry have been strengthened. For example, in the first 6 months of the year, the province quarantined over 2,983,000 animals of all kinds and controlled the slaughter of 40,450 livestock and poultry, issued 8 new certificates of disease-free facilities (including 3 livestock facilities and 5 shrimp production and hatchery facilities), and organized appraisals and periodic sampling for monitoring at 13 facilities that had been granted disease-free certificates.

In the coming time, the industry will continue to focus on developing large-scale livestock and poultry farming, applying high technology, clean and safe, combined with concentrated slaughter and processing activities, ensuring environmental hygiene. At the same time, effectively implement disease prevention work on livestock and poultry. Implement vaccination, quarantine and control of livestock and poultry slaughter, striving to bring the output of fresh meat of all kinds to 115,000 tons in 2025. Along with that, strengthen inspection, control and strictly handle violations of trading in fake and poor quality agricultural materials; use of banned substances and stimulants that do not ensure food safety. Continue to implement propaganda work on food safety. Deploy the development of safe agricultural and aquatic food supply chain models, survey and support agricultural and aquatic product production and trading establishments to apply and certify advanced quality management programs in food production and trading. Strengthening inspection and control of food safety and hygiene of agricultural and aquatic products, along with tracing the origin and recalling products that do not ensure quality and food safety. Thereby, contributing to the positive and stable changes in livestock farming activities in the area.
