Middle East tensions are about to escalate

The Israeli military carried out at least 10 strikes on the outskirts of the Lebanese capital Beirut this morning. Israel said the attacks targeted Hezbollah assets and infrastructure, AFP reported.

The attack came a day after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with US officials to discuss a ceasefire scenario in Lebanon. Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati yesterday condemned the Israeli attack, saying it showed Tel Aviv was rejecting efforts to reach a ceasefire agreement.

US warns of 'civilian lives' as Israel launches airstrikes on Lebanon

Since Israel launched a ground attack on Lebanon on October 2, much of the infrastructure in the southern Lebanese border area has been damaged. According to The Washington Post on October 31, based on satellite imagery analysis, nearly a quarter of the buildings in 25 southern Lebanese regions (more than 5,800 structures) bordering Israel have been damaged or destroyed after attacks by the Israeli army.

Also related to the situation in the Middle East, CNN said yesterday that Israel was "highly prepared" for the scenario of Iran reacting to Tel Aviv's attack on Iran on October 26, after information that Tehran could retaliate before the US presidential election (November 5).

In addition, Axios quoted two sources from Tel Aviv saying that the country's intelligence assessed that Iran could launch an attack on Israel from Iraqi territory, using a large number of drones and ballistic missiles.

Iraq has not responded to the information. Meanwhile, The New York Times on October 31 quoted Iranian officials as saying that Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei had ordered the planning of an attack on Israel.
