BHG - From the capital of the national target program, poor and near-poor households in Na Chi commune (Xin Man) have a foothold to rise up in life. The model of breeding buffaloes is assessed to be suitable to the actual conditions of the locality, thereby demonstrating the closeness and seriousness of the Party Committee and the commune government in implementing the program and project of the Central Government, at the same time creating consensus and high determination among the people.

Na Chi is a locality with many difficulties, people's lives depend on agriculture and forestry. Implementing the National Target Program on Socio-Economic Development in Ethnic Minorities and Mountainous Areas, at the end of 2024, Na Chi commune was allocated 1.6 billion VND to support 48 poor and near-poor households in 8 villages to implement a model of breeding buffaloes. Each household participating in the model was supported with nearly 40 million VND. Vice Chairman of Na Chi Commune People's Committee Lu Van Luyen said: Based on natural conditions, climate and people's needs, the Party Committee and the commune government determined that breeding buffaloes is a direction suitable for people's farming habits. The factors that create effectiveness in implementing the model are publicity, transparency and taking advantage of people's support. Before implementing the project, the People's Committee of the commune and villages organized meetings with people to approve policies and get people's opinions. In Na Chi, buffaloes are not only a great asset but can also multiply the herd, creating a long-term livelihood for the people.

From the national target program capital, Mr. Hoang Van Hai, Tan Son village has more resources to develop livestock farming.
From the national target program capital, Mr. Hoang Van Hai, Tan Son village has more resources to develop livestock farming.

The family of Mr. Hoang Van Quan, in Tan Son village, was one of the first households to receive breeding buffaloes from the support fund of the national target program. Mr. Quan's family is a poor household, and their economy depends entirely on a few fields. After receiving support, the family bought two breeding buffaloes and expanded the area for planting elephant grass, learning care techniques through training sessions. After a few months, one buffalo gave birth to a calf. "The newly purchased breeding buffaloes were vaccinated against diseases, grew well and gave birth to another healthy calf. My family has more resources and motivation to develop the economy...", Mr. Quan happily shared.

Mr. Hoang Van Hai's family (Tan Son village) also recorded clear effectiveness from the model. Mr. Hai's family has 3 members and is in extremely difficult circumstances. Previously, the family raised buffalo and black pigs, but after his wife had a work accident and had to be treated for a long time and money, plus his son was also diagnosed with heart disease, so all the family's assets were sold to treat his wife and children. When he received capital support at the end of December 2024, Mr. Hai could not hide his emotions and was extremely happy to receive support from the State. Mr. Hoang Van Hai confided: The timely and timely support capital is really valuable to my family. Currently, the family is raising 3 buffaloes, 2 of which were purchased from the support capital. I also grow more grass to provide enough food for the buffalo herd.

In addition to its economic value, the model also helps people increase their awareness of caring for and protecting their assets, gradually forming the habit of raising livestock in the direction of commodities. According to statistics from the People's Committee of Na Chi commune, up to now, 100% of the supported breeding buffaloes have developed well, of which nearly 40 breeding buffaloes have reproduced. Not stopping there, the effectiveness of the program also created a spillover effect, when many other households in the commune, although not directly supported, proactively borrowed capital and bought breeding buffaloes according to the model.

The support capital from the National Target Program on Socio-Economic Development of Ethnic Minorities and Mountainous Areas has been bringing about remarkable results in the development of breeding buffalo in Na Chi Commune. The model not only helps people have more assets and improve their livelihoods but also contributes to changing production thinking and promoting the construction of the New Rural Area.
