According to the Electricity Regulatory Authority ( Ministry of Industry and Trade ), in the first 6 months of 2024, despite facing many challenges such as hot weather, high load and maximum capacity compared to the same period, however, the electricity supply for socio-economic development and people's needs is still guaranteed.

In the first 6 months, the dispatching agency mobilized 86.4 billion kWh from coal-fired thermal power sources (accounting for 56.96% of total output in the first 6 months of the year), 556 million kWh higher than planned; oil-fired thermal power mobilized 88 million kWh higher than planned; gas-fired thermal power mobilized about 13.08 billion kWh.

Regarding hydropower sources, in the first 5 months of the year, due to poor hydrological conditions, the mobilization was limited and the water level of hydropower reservoirs was maintained high to ensure electricity supply in the North. In June 2024, the hydrological conditions were favorable, and the mobilized hydropower output was higher than 2.454 billion kWh.

Renewable energy sources mobilized reached 20.67 billion kWh (accounting for about 13.63% of total output in the first 6 months of the year), of which wind energy reached 6.123 billion kWh and solar power reached 13.88 billion kWh.

Speaking with Lao Dong Newspaper, Deputy Director of the Electricity Regulatory Authority Nguyen The Huu said that in the long term, to ensure electricity supply for production and daily life, the Electricity and Renewable Energy Authority and the Electricity Regulatory Authority have developed a direct electricity purchase and sale mechanism - DPPA to submit to the Government .

In addition, the Electricity Regulatory Authority will continue to complete Circulars on grid price frameworks, waste, biomass, etc. to complete the legal basis for developing power sources for production and daily life in the coming time.

A representative of the Electricity Regulatory Authority said that based on the actual load developments in June 2024 and the forecast of socio -economic development in the last months of the year, according to EVN's calculations, the Northern power system basically meets the load capacity demand, however, the level of power source capacity reserve is still low.

In July 2024, with the scenario of prolonged extreme hot weather, if coal-fired thermal power plants have incidents and reduced capacity, the Northern power system will be at risk of no longer having reserve capacity. In this case, we will drastically implement the operation of shifting load demand between peak hours, while mobilizing additional diesel generators borrowed from customers to ensure adequate power supply.

During the period of August - December, the reserve capacity of the Northern power system is still low, power generation units need to continue to strictly implement the maintenance of available capacity and equipment readiness.
