Elias Meyer, a professional weightlifter, said he decided to set a record for the longest time spent in direct full-body contact with snow after discovering that no one had broken the two-hour mark. Elias Meyer, wearing only a swimsuit, was buried under a pile of snow for 2 hours and 7 seconds. He said the cold did not bother him as much as the weight of the snow pressing down on him. "The thick snow pressed me down, causing pain in my shoulders and elbows. It was like having a sharp rock hit my back and I couldn't do anything, now I can only be grateful, grateful for everything," Meyer wrote on Instagram. Photo: @guinnessworldrecords.
The Swiss weightlifter is used to cold winds that can drop to 3 degrees Celsius and the numbing feeling of snow on his bare skin, but he wants to prove to everyone that the body is capable of amazing things. While humans can adapt to cold weather, and even train themselves to be better able to withstand extreme temperatures, there is still a risk of hypothermia when taking on these challenges. So the organizers made sure there was a hospital and an emergency team nearby, along with observers constantly monitoring Elias Meyer’s internal body temperature and health.
