Speaking about the decision, the Conservative politician said: “It is with great sadness that I have to leave Parliament – at least for now. I have been forced out by a small number of people, without any evidence to support their claims. This is unacceptable even to Conservative Party members, let alone to the majority of voters.”

Previously, in July last year, Mr. Boris Johnson resigned as British Prime Minister after 3 years in power. Before that, he was involved in many scandals, causing discontent in the government, Parliament and political elite in the UK. Mr. Johnson's reputation was seriously reduced.

It all started in 2020, when a series of parties for Prime Minister's office staff were held in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, while restrictions strictly prohibited such events.

Mr Johnson initially gave conflicting accounts and denied responsibility for the incident. However, a special inquiry later found that in 2020 and 2021, when the UK was experiencing the peak of Covid-19, 16 parties were held at the Prime Minister's Downing Street residence with 83 people attending, including members of Parliament who were fined for breaching lockdown regulations.

At the end of May 2022, Mr. Johnson had to apologize and declare that he took full responsibility for letting this incident happen in his presence.
