BIDV, MB, SHB banks and a number of businesses have simultaneously issued warnings to customers to avoid sophisticated fraud in gold buying and selling activities.
BIDV and MB have launched a series of fraudulent tricks, including impersonating websites, fanpages, social network accounts... of large gold trading enterprises, using similar domain names, interfaces and logos to confuse them with official pages.
Fraudsters also post fake information about gold and silver prices, promotions, high discounts, big rewards, etc. to attract buyers and create trust.
In addition, the subjects invited people to buy and sell gold online, promising high profits and daily or weekly interest payments to commit illegal acts.
In addition, there are also cases of bad guys sending messages and emails impersonating businesses or gold and silver company leaders to announce winning prizes, collecting customer and people's data to commit illegal acts. The bad guys have taken advantage of leaked personal information, impersonating acquaintances and gold and silver company employees to approach and scam by phone and through other social networking applications.

SHB said that scammers will fake websites, fanpages, and social media accounts with domain names, interfaces, and logos identical to those of major business brands such as SJC, DOJI , Bao Tin Minh Chau, Phu Quy, etc. or licensed credit institutions, making it easy for users to mistake them for the official site.
After building trust, the subjects spread fake news about gold/silver prices, advertised promotions, high discounts, and attractive rewards. Taking advantage of greed and lack of vigilance, the subjects invited online investment, committed to high profits, and paid interest daily/weekly - essentially a form of fraud with signs of pyramid schemes or money appropriation.
When the victim “falls into the trap”, the bad guys continue to send messages and emails impersonating the business or company leader to announce the winning prize, requesting personal information and bank account for profit. The bad guys even impersonate relatives, employees of the gold company, call or contact via social networks to approach and defraud in many different forms.
Previously, Ho Chi Minh City Jewelry Company (SJC) and Bao Tin Minh Chau also said that some people had created fake websites and fanpages impersonating these brands to scam, collect personal data and conduct transactions without legal basis.

To avoid falling into fraud traps, banks and gold trading businesses recommend that customers carefully check websites, fanpages, links, and verify business information through official channels.
People can only buy and sell directly at licensed gold trading establishments with officers and employees at the counter, a sign clearly stating "Location licensed by the State Bank to buy and sell gold bars" and a copy of the license posted in an easily visible place.
People should not provide personal information, accounts, or OTP codes to anyone, including those claiming to be employees of a business or bank. When detecting signs of fraud or suspecting property appropriation, they should immediately contact the nearest police station or report to the bank through official channels.
The warnings were issued by banks in response to the fact that gold trading fraud has increased sharply in recent times, in the context of the domestic precious metal price being much higher than the world price, maintained at 10-15 million VND/tael and people having difficulty buying when in need due to limited supply.
Currently, the whole country has 22 banks and 16 enterprises licensed to trade in gold bars such as SJC, DOJI, PNJ, Mi Hong, Bao Tin Minh Chau, Phu Quy Gold, Kim Ngoc Phu Gold, Ngoc Hai Gold and Gemstones...
Unlicensed gold jewelry businesses that still trade gold bars with people, or people who trade with each other, are against the law. These transactions will be punished by the authorities.
Decree 88/2019 of the Government regulating administrative sanctions in the field of currency and banking clearly states that acts of buying and selling gold with unlicensed entities will be subject to warnings and fines from 10 million VND to 20 million VND for repeated violations.
