Raheem Sterling (left) is receiving interest from Bayer Leverkusen. |
The 30-year-old striker has just returned to Stamford Bridge after a disappointing loan spell at Arsenal, where he scored just one goal in 28 appearances. Despite his poor form, Sterling has attracted interest from a number of European clubs, with Leverkusen said to be seriously considering a move for the former England international.
This summer, Leverkusen said goodbye to coach Xabi Alonso - who moved to Real Madrid - along with a series of pillars such as Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Jonathan Tah and Granit Xhaka (who is about to join Sunderland). New captain Erik ten Hag therefore faces a big challenge in restructuring the squad to compete for the Bundesliga title and compete in the Champions League.
Sterling, with his vast experience in the Premier League and European competitions, is seen as a potential addition. However, he will have to prove that he still has the pace and sharpness to play at the highest level.
According to Mail Sport , Sterling has not received a clear announcement about his future, but coach Enzo Maresca has no intention of using him next season. Chelsea are ready to let Sterling leave this summer to cut the wage bill. At 30 years old, the former Manchester City star has not ruled out the possibility of continuing to play in the Premier League if given the chance.
Chelsea had previously suggested sending players in the opposite direction in negotiations with West Ham regarding Mohammed Kudus. However, West Ham did not show any interest in this exchange option.
If an agreement is reached with Leverkusen, this could be an opportunity for Sterling to renew his career and prove that he is still capable of conquering the top arena.
