Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh stated that during more than 50 years of revolutionary activities, former President Tran Duc Luong made many great contributions to the glorious revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation.
He was awarded the Gold Star Order, 65-year Party membership badge and many other noble Vietnamese and international medals, awards and titles by the Party and State.

The funeral of former President Tran Duc Luong was held as a State funeral on May 24 and 25.
During the two days of the State Funeral of former President Tran Duc Luong, flags will be flown at half-mast in agencies, offices, and public places, and no entertainment activities will be organized.
Vietnam Television and Voice of Vietnam will broadcast live the State Funeral.
Former President Tran Duc Luong passed away at 10:51 p.m. on May 20 at his home, at the age of 88.
He was born on May 5, 1937, in Pho Khanh commune, Duc Pho district (now Duc Pho town), Quang Ngai province. He joined the revolution in February 1955 and joined the Party in December 1959.
He was a member of the Party Central Committee for 5 terms (V (alternate), VI, VII, VIII, IX); a member of the Politburo for the 8th and 9th terms; a member of the Standing Committee of the Politburo for the 8th term.
He served as Vice Chairman of the Council of Ministers from February 1987 to August 1992. He served as Deputy Prime Minister from September 1992 to August 1997.
He held the position of President from September 1997 to June 2006. He was a National Assembly delegate of the 7th, 8th, 10th and 11th terms.
During more than 50 years of revolutionary activities, former President Tran Duc Luong made many great contributions to the glorious revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation.
He was awarded the Gold Star Order, 65-year Party membership badge and many other noble orders, medals, awards and titles by the Party and State.
The funeral committee for former President Tran Duc Luong consists of 34 members, headed by President Luong Cuong. Members of the funeral committee also include Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man, and many leaders of the Party, State, ministries, sectors, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Quang Ngai province.
The funeral organizing committee consists of 25 members, headed by Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh. Members of the funeral organizing committee also include many leaders of the Party, State, ministries, sectors, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Quang Ngai province and family representatives.
