Special opening ceremony at Ho Chi Minh City Oncology Hospital.
The special class “Sunflower” was established in September 2009 for pediatric cancer patients undergoing inpatient and outpatient treatment at the Ho Chi Minh City Oncology Hospital. Each year, the class receives about 150-200 children to participate.
Dr. Diep Bao Tuan, Director of Ho Chi Minh City Oncology Hospital, said that with the desire to help children have the opportunity to study like other children of the same age, the hospital has set aside a large room to open a class. Up to now, the class has received much attention and contributions from benefactors.

“The main goal is to ensure that despite their illness, the children can still acquire knowledge, not have their studies interrupted, and have more motivation in their treatment journey. The ceremony is also an opportunity for the hospital to express its deep gratitude to the benefactors, leaders, and teachers who have joined hands to build this humane educational environment,” Dr. Diep Bao Tuan shared at the ceremony.

Ms. Tran Thi Mong Lien, who has been with the class for 9 years, shared: “My biggest wish is for the children to recover soon so they can go to school and study like other children. Right now, I just hope I have the health to be able to accompany them. Although we have many disadvantages, we try to make up for them so that they can still go to school and study in a special way.”

In the joyful atmosphere of the opening day, besides the bright smiles of the sick children, many parents could not hide their emotions.
Ms. Vo Thi Phuong Thuy ( Quang Ngai province) has a 6-year-old daughter who is undergoing chemotherapy for bone cancer at the hospital, sharing: “ My child was in preschool but had to drop out to come here for treatment. She loves studying, often mentioning her teachers and friends when she was still in school in the countryside. Now that her health is stable, I let her attend classes at the hospital. She is very happy and excited to see her friends again, to draw and learn letters.”
At the ceremony, the hospital's Board of Directors presented thank you letters to the sponsors and gave many gifts for the new school year to the children. They will start their first day of school tomorrow, September 5.
